What's with Swiss prices??!!

... or make you even more of a dangerous driver, as you're concentrating on your dashboard rather than on the car in front of you ...

Anyway, this is a whole 'nother complaints topic! But if you like, I can get it started: if the Swiss were really serious about reducing drivers' speeds to make the roads safer, instead of unadulterated, cynical revenue-raising, they would have a points system on driving licences, locate speed cameras only in accident blackspots and erect warning signs wherever said speed cameras were located.

I have yet to hear of an accident caused by somebody paying attention to their speed. I have however heard of numerous fatal accidents caused by excessive speed.

so in other words, the rest of the road network should be a free for all speeding zone?

No, it should just be implemented sensibly. Speed is responsible for a relatively small proporiton of accidents on the road, and many are killed going at the national speed limits by doing idiotic things like using mobile phones while driving (Swiss are really bad for this) and from not maintaining a proper distance from the car in front (Swiss are also very bad for this too).

And with all the speed cameras, there are fewer police patrolling the streets (have you ever seen one on the autobahn?) so you can drive as recklessly as you like, as long as you're doing to speed limit.

Hmm... I wonder why Lamb is cheap in New Zealand?

Ponder, ponder....

Exactly, and that is the real point. Speed cameras are always placed at locations where it is the "safest" to drive a bit too fast, and not in accident blackspots, it's just revenue raising.

Heh heh, yes, I was also amused that lamb steaks got picked out ...

You canot always see the reason for a speed limit. Maybe some speed limits are implemented out of pure pedantry but others are there for a good reason. Can you always see the difference? Why should you be allowed to decide which are which are break the law accordingly?

My appartment faces a major road for example. The neighbourhood spent many years campaigning for speed cameras to be put up and many petitions were signed and letters written. It's not an accident hot spot and never has been but there are other reasons to go slow. I don't see, for example, why some fool's hot rod should wake me at two in the morning. I support these speed cameras and wouldn't want anybody to take them down.

I do see the reason and sense of speed limits, and I agree with many new 30kmh zones. But the logic in placement of speeding cameras is purely financial reasons. I remember a list where it was spelt out which location made the most money. The lowest on the list disappeared and new ones popped up at new locations. For me there is no arguing that speeding cams are strategically located in places where the most people are inclined to drive slightly too fast because it's safe to do so.

dead old thread. But:

After reminiscing about coned beef hash on the other thread I decided to make it once again after decades.
So I have a hard time finding the Corned Beef at Migros, due to the tins tinyness as it turnes out. 198g (what a stupid size) is all I can get.
For Fr. 4.20?!?

Isn’t corned beef about the lowest quality meat available? This price is ridiculous! Or not?
It would be cheaper to make it with proper, fresh, minced beef probably.
Well, I bought it and will make it twice then to compare.

@curley, I don’t know what you call corned beef, but mine is made with a good-quality brisket and pickling spices. It’s easy:

Try Coop. I think they have a smaller bio version and a bigger traditional open it with the key.

The Migros one also opens with a key (long time I’ve seen that.

I set the photo on 100% so you can see the tiny thing

@bossybaby I wasn’t planning to produce corned beef myself really. I’ll look at the recipe anyway. If people produce it themselves it can’t be that bad a quality product? I thought there was only junk meat in corned beef.

Corned beef, semolina, Brussel sprouts - ah, the old memories of a British diet long gone. Thank goodness for foreign food ( with apologies to Yorkshire and black pudding)

US corned beef and what the brits know as corned beef are not the same thing at all.

What the brits call corned beef is mashed up meat (usually cured brisket) which is pressed and tinned.
We used to call it bully beef and it was traditionally imported from Argentina.

yep, that’s the only corned beef I know too. And the only meal I ever had it in was in my friends corned beef hash. (I think that’s what I bought today too but I won’t know until I use it).

bossybaby’s home made one looks more like a decent meal to me

Corned beef hash was a cheap and tasty meal when I was a kid. I haven’t had it for years.

Have you tried talking to a marriage counselor?

Bossybaby’s post refers to what the Irish would call corned beef, a decent piece of brisket cooked in a specific way.
Having said that, when I was a child my irish mother used to buy the english tinned stuff (@curley; which is chopped, pressed beef rather than minced) and coat slices in a thick batter before shallow frying it… cheap and tasty. I occasionally dream of sandwiches made with thinly sliced corned beef bought from a UK supermarket deli counter.

About corned beef?
And whom are you referring to?
