Hello
I am a foreign student in Geneva have SWISSCARE insurance. I was hospitalized for emergency last year at HUG. I paid the bill already and made the claim to SWISSCARE with all documents, payment proof two weeks ago.
The bill was quite high for me, 4000. So I am really waiting for their refund which sounds like a silence now.
Can someone tell me your experience about this, please? How long did you get your payment from them?
Thanks a lot.
I don't have swisscare, but my insurer takes about a month.
I'm surprised with a bill that large that the hospital didn't bill the insurer direct though.
That is indeed a strange situation - because inpatient treatments are paid directly by Swisscare as a general rule - and usually don't have to be paid in advance by the insured. Did you fill out the claim form and hand in all of the receipts plus proof of payment?
I would contact the claims department, they are usually very competent - perhaps they did not receive your documents - or the treatment is not covered according to the Swiss health insurance law.
I sent them all the documents and payment proof two weeks ago already.
I was in hospital only one night so then I paid myself. Of course it's covered by the health insurance law.
@international: you talk like you are working there and you want to prevent the negative saying for that company on internet.
Hi! Oh I thought you have been waiting for a year - not just two weeks.
I don't work there sorry - I just was trying to help you. In my experience, people often forget to hand in stuff.
By the way - I know about Swisscare's claim procedure because I have a bunch of clients that have chosen Swisscare.
Hi Zacjon
I have been in a similar situation in Zurich, though my bill was smaller (around 2K). Having hear some nasty stories about Swisscare, I was happily surprised that everything went smooth with my claim. But be patient. In my case it took them around 3 weeks to respond and another 2 weeks to refund.
Thank you so much for your information, aacgim7. They replied me four days ago, asking for some more details, which is a respond after two weeks. So now I'm still waiting, I hope to get the refund soon as soon as your case.
Best luck! Just don't forget that certain things here may last longer than in other countries.
In my case, I was quite unlucky as some of my blood tests bills were separetaly sent to me, as they were carried out not by the hospital, but some private contractor (for whatever reason). These I had to pay myself (around 100chf). But the main sum was still refunded by Swisscare.
Also, to be honest, the reason why I ended up in hospital was arguable and largely caused by my own stupidity, and I personally would not have been schocked if they had declined.
Hello everyone,
Thank you for all of the information you shared with me.
I'd like to update my case. I received the reimbursement already, which is around 1 month after I sent them my claim and a reminding email.
From January 1, 2013 they are obliged to withdraw an excess of 10% from every compensatory claim. This is based on the Swiss Health Care Benefits Ordinances (KLV). So I got less than the bill I paid, which is about 1000fr. less but I'm happy with their response and the prompt procedure.
Thank you everyone and I wish you a good coming weekend.
Cheers.
