Where are you originally from?

Hi

I’ve been lurking around this forum for a few weeks now and it’s been a great source of information. As it’s an English speaking forum I was curious to understand where everyone is from and where you are living now?

We are originally from Yorkshire and Teesside in the UK. We then moved to London for ten years and are now based in Bern.

What about everyone else?

My ancestors once ruled the castle in Sargans and there's a coat of arms on the wall to prove it.

I was born with a coat hanger in my mouth on a PSA flight from Reno to Fresno.

I was left in a basket by the side of a river, which doesn't exist any more. Found by a passing herd of brontosaurs, who raised me for the first defining years.

Once they had taught me all they could, they sent me up to Klingon in order to hone my social skills, so I would be able to flourish in the coming age of the internet, which the wise brontosaurs could see in their future already. On Klingon, I found my love for dogs, the targs.

Define originally from?

Where I was born? Where my parents were born? Where my grandparents were born? The countries I lived in growing up? The countries on my passports? Where my dog was born? The countries I spent most of my holidays in? The answer for each of the of above differs...

Leeds. And there's plenty of us Yorkies here on EF!

I used to live on Flumserberg and ate a few times in the restaurant in the castle (open only in warmer months as there was no insulation!) and I joined a tour once, the guide was also a descendant of the family who owned/built it.

Don’t know why it’s so difficult to answer where people lived before they relocated to Switzerland. I used to spend a lot of time in Leeds actually before we moved to London. We still pop back from time to time to visit our parents and catch up with friends.

I have lived in Germany & Sweden before moving to Switzerland.

I think it's because you're new here. Some people here like to passive-aggressively bully "newbies" on the forum. I've met quite a few native English speakers here in CH who have told me that's why they don't use this place. I'm sorry you had to deal with it.

P.S. I'm from the US, near the Michigan / Ohio border, just south of Detroit. Then I lived in Seattle for six years, prior to moving here.

Well, as Spinal mentioned, my answer would depend on the level of detail, but I can share that:

- I was born in Argentina

- My parents were Russian and Norwegian

- I grew up in Argentina, but left 20+ years ago. I've been out and about, but been in Switzerland the longest

No worries, LondonKid. No one was offended and you got lots of witty answers. Some people prefer to be private about their origins thus supplying you with other replies instead.

Don’t think anyone’s offended, but personal details could possibly be used to impersonate someone on the internet or help to steal their identity. Okay, may be extreme, but there are reasons why the advice is to put as little info about yourself on the 'net as possible. Especially on a rickety old forum platform like this vBulletin - security holes galore.

Plus people like to have fun with such questions as you can see.
