Where can I get a whole turkey in Basel for Thanksgiving?

Hello!

I need it by November 21st...happy to order if needed. I don't want to spend a small fortune if at all possible.

Thank-you!!

Try Globus or Manor

Better to go over the border to one of the French hypermarkets, seen them there by the flock last Saturday, remember 3 kilo allowance.

You can order one at the larger Migros and Coop stores, where they have a meat counter and a sales person. The meat used to be cheap, but lately they are charging around SFr 22 / Kg! It's best to decide the weight, and if necessary write out a little note. You MIGHT be very lucky and find one on offer, but at Thanksgiving they are VERY rare.

As you live near Saint-Louis, have you thought of asking for one there? 3 Kg pro person is the allowance.

I've never found a cheap turkey here and unless it's Christmas when you might be lucky to get one in Coop or Migros you generally will only get them by ordering through your butcher. If you can pop over to France for one it's well worth it - they are much cheaper, much more available, and any time I've bought one here it's been a French import anyway.

There is a very nice butcher just up the block from the Riehen Dorf tram stop (#6 tram) in Riehen called Henz. The folks there have assured me that they are capable of getting turkeys, but need 3 to 4 days to order.

Last year I got a (humongous!) turkey leg (drum and thigh) from Rewe across into Weil am Rhein for probably about €6. This was plenty for hubby and I for two days... but I can understand the desire for a whole bird too. (Rewe may or may not have whole turkeys, I didn't look.)

Correct allowance is 3,5kg per person... However, only per object.

If you have 2 people in the car, you may import 2 birds = 3,5kg or less

It is not allowed to buy one bird = 7kg.

If you are over, you must declare and pay a small fee.

Last time I cooked Christmas dinner in Switzerland, which was about 8 years ago, I found my turkey at Co-op. Maybe if you spoke with the butcher he could order you one?
