Ummm, no, it's exactly the opposite -- demand drives supply. (This is why advertising exists: to create demand which otherwise wouldn't exist. Then the manufacturer can conveniently supply this new demand.) This is Economics 101.

it's always very difficult to see the effects of a law...but in general in Sweden buying sex is seen as something very immoral, and very low, similar up there with "drinking & driving" and drugs consumption.

The "problem" in Sweden is that we always have very tough criteria for "success", you often hear "zero tolerance", and if the goal has not been met, then it's a failure...and since we have no real reference it's difficult to say what is good and what is not...

There are two side to being "invisible." While a city may pat itself on the back for having little VISIBLE prostitution, that does not necessarily mean that society is better off. By forcing it completely underground, you create an invisible subclass of people who cannot enjoy the protections society has to offer (like police, and the justice system) and often put themselves at risk trying to attend to more basic needs (like medical). Forcing people to live on the fringe because they are doing something you don't like, but will be done anyway, simply creates a different set of strains - and creates a social strata ripe for organized crime (who will provide the protections society refuses to, at a very different sort of cost).
I am not an expert. I just come from a country that stigmatizes all sex work and criminalizes some of it (the US) and had friends who were forced to constantly dance along the fringes.
Is it desirable that there be NO prostitution? Quite possibly. But there is a difference between "a society where no one finds prostitution appealing because the rest of their life takes care of their needs conventionally" and "a society with no streetwalkers." And, as a whole, the second might quite possibly be a lot worse than legally tolerating some prostitution.

It is desirable that there be NO prostitution. Above ground, underground, anywhere. Is this possible...probably not in this life, but we can try. It's one of the saddest, heartbreaking topics I know of.
The average age of entry is 13/14 - no, maybe not in EVERY country, but internationally. Maybe the 26 y.o. isn't 13 now...ugh.
Prostitution doesn't HAVE to be sad and humiliating, plus, how many women factor in "he's got a very good job" into their choice of partner? You cannot draw the line clearly and if a woman makes a conscious choice to do this job, is over 20 and allowed to work in a safe environment with fair pay, it's probably better than a few other "respectable" jobs going.
Of course, human trafficking and bargain basement attitude clients who completely disregard the rules of safe sex make the whole thing very unpleasant for the majority of people but I do know some ladies who worked in the business prior to the influx from Eastern Countries and they have absolutely no regrets. And in some cases, a nice car and an apartment that belongs to them.

I remember when I first left University. It was during a recession and I did some crap jobs that were very low paid, and sometimes dangerous. I would've quite hapily changed that to have sex with well-to-do women if I'd had the oportunity. Sadly, I'm no Richard Gere.
I don't have a moral issue with it at all if it's two consenting adults. Under-age, human trafficking, drugs, vulnerable people, pimps and violence are the crimes associated with it and that's what people hate.
I think it works both ways. There are people who really want something and will buy it illicitly if they can't buy it legally.
There are also people who buy certain things because they are easy to get but if they were more difficult or illegal they wouldn't bother and probably wouldn't even be aware they were missing out on anything.
To ascertain whether or not a ban would be effective you would have to look at the relative size of those two categories of clients.
As far as I am aware, nobody has done that yet.
