Where Can I Play Tennis in Basel?

Coming from America I'm used to public tennis courts and affordable clubs. The places I've contacted so far are at least 2000 CHF + for my husband and I. Is there a place where we can just pay to play for a couple of hours or is there a public tennis court here? Thank-you!

Your cheapest option is to play across the border in Germany. There are many places within 20 mins of Basel (by car). For example there are a few places in Weil am Rhein. Check them out on the internet.

CHF 2,000/year for 2 people doesn't sound too bad. I pay $200/month at my tennis club in SF. You can pay per session at Old Boys Club. What's your level?

Well, I have a friend from Basel who after being quoted the above amount by the Old Boys, he joined some other club further away in Aargau. It's quite steep to pay CHF2000 per annum for two. Reasonable amount is about CHF500 per annum. Try to search under www.swisstennis.ch clubs near Basel that offer better rates or go across border.

Old Boys Club would be very convenient for us, but you can only play 3 times a season without being a member. TCB is the club we would really like to eventually join. The thing is that my husband is very busy with work and I commute a long distance, so we can really only play on the weekends. We wouldn't be able to participate enough in our steep 2000 CHF investment.

We come from FL & TX where there are so many public tennis clubs & tennis courts to choose from....and open at flexible hours. We were playing 3-4 times per week. Our level is semi-experienced. But we are a little rusty since we haven't played in over a year since our move to Europe. I guess I may have to give up on my favorite hobby for now.

Thank-you for your help!

there's a place just over the border to Baselland in Allschwil here

I don't play tennis so I can't vouch for what it's like there but the website idicates that you can pay per session.

Thanks Sparky101! That would be really convenient for us too! Great!!!!

and Old Boys is Roger's club!!

Yes I know...I'm such a dorky fan too, I'm always looking for him there every time I pass by. I've loved the Fed way before we knew we'd be living in his town close to his tennis club. So cool!
