Where can you find buttermilk in Switzerland?

I have seen it in Germany, but not here. Am I just missing it? Thanks! Want to make those fluffy buttermilk pancakes this weekend.

You can find it at both the migros and the coop. At the coop it's next to the fruity yogurt drinks and the bottle has a large green label. At the migros its located in the same spot and is in a light blue bottle with a white flower on it. It's always on the top shelf of the stores I shop at.

If you can't find it, or don't want to go outside, add 1tbsp of either lemon juice or white vinegar per 1 c of milk and let it stand for 5 mins so it curdles. Has the same effect and you won't need to freeze your ass off.

seen it in Aldi, sorry dont know the Swiss word, will try and take note next time and I am there

Brought back memories of my childhood visits, when some people used to make their own butter, that appears to be much less now-a-days

It's at Volg too, 'Buttermilch' in German. The flavored one, strawberry, makes yummy pancakes!

oopss. I guess the link didn't get copied properly. Anyways, the buttermilk is easy to find in the dairy section. It's in a cardboard bottle and it says buttermilch on it, which should be no brainer

Buttermilk refers to a number of dairy drinks. Originally, buttermilk was the liquid left behind after churning butter out of cream. This type of buttermilk is known as traditional buttermilk (from Wiki)

For example there is a product with writing "smetana" on the packaging in Manor, but it is not smetana.

Hmmm... I don't know what you are looking for then as I never tried maslanka. I use the Coop buttermilk in cakes and it works fine. I wouldn't probably drink it as it's kind of watery and doesn't taste too great.

Yes you are missing it, any bigger Migros (MM) or Coop should have it, spend a little longer in the cold section, if I remember correctly its near the flavored Yogurt drinks.

If you're from the US, Swiss buttermilk (at least what i've seen) is not what you are used to, it's thin and brown, not thick and white. If the texture matters, acbetter substitute is milk with a small amount of lemon juice or vinegar in it to curdle. The soured milk works well in many recipes, again, if you're used to the thicker American type. But if it's a Swiss recipe, obviously, then Swiss buttermilk should work.

I've been curious about yogurt milk, if it exists in an unflavored variety.

Hi, was looking for buttermilk myself this weekend - tried "Blanc battu" bought at Migro and think this is what we would refer to as buttermilk. Thick, white and tasted like buttermilk - was a hit with me. Hope this helps.
