I would like to get some information on which part of Switzerland is cheapest regarding renting a flat with 2bedrooms? How the prices differ due to cantons?
I am interested in normally equipped flats, in buildings which were not built in the stone age, but a little later.
I was thinking maybe interested EF-ers could write how much they pay for the rent.
Where you can rent a cheap flat depends on what nationality you are. If an EU national holding a B permit you can rent almost anywhere so long as you’re happy to do the commute to get to/from work.
If you’re a non-EU national then sorry, but you’re limited to the canton that your workplace is based in.
Obivously if you’re living a long way from your workplace then what you save in rental will probably be spent on commuting, but these will give you an idea of what’s available in your price range.
Move to the deepest Jura, Wallis or Graubünden if you want cheap (and even there I'm not so sure anymore). Of course that will essentially isolate you from almost anything, but if cheap is the only criterion, you really don't have much choice...
If you don't want to live in an extremely rural mini-village somewhere at the end of the world where you see more cows than people, then sorry OP, you gotta adjust your expectations very fast. It's completely unrealistic to think you can get a furnished 2 BR (which I'm guessing is actually a 3-room apartment here and even if it's not it hardly matters) for 700. Or even 800 or 900 and in all urban areas 1000 upwards. You may get a furnished room in a shared flat/house for that amount of money, but certainly not a place on your own and certainly not with several rooms.
However, if you're single and earning 100k CHF per year your tax bill increases by over 9k CHF per year compared to central Zürich, or 15.5k more than if you lived in Zug!
As with everything in CH, it's not as simple as finding the cheapest place to rent (unless you're unemployed, unemployable and destitute )
Doesn't even have a kitchen, let alone is furbished Not to speak of the location
And of course you're right, goes high tax-low(ish) rent, low(ish) taxes-high rent. Easy.
Just for the fun of it, I did a quick search for furnished places 2-3.5 apartments, less than 700. Plenty came up at 110.-. Of course that is per day. Sneaky bastards
