Where do I dispose of garbage?

As the title says. Not regular garbage; for this, I have learned the hard way, you have to buy special garbage bags.

But where do I go with left over building materials (drywall, wood, metal bars), and other stuff that I don't need anymore (mostly a lot of old administration papers, old computers and computer parts)?

I recently moved to CH and I have about 3 cartrunks full of stuff that need to go to a landslide. Where do I do for this (I live in Zurich-Oerlikon)?

Have a peep inside the sticky in this part of the forum - it's just above your thread at the moment.

Welcome to Switzerland, and welcome to a new regime for disposal of resources.

has all the details. Google Translate would assist in parsing that, I suppose, in case the local language is (still) foreign to you.

Thanks, I overlooked that. So for instance, I have wooden poles and when I type in my address I get the following schedule:

--------------------

Bioabfall

Abholdaten

I don't have an "Abo" I guess. Questions:

Does this mean that I can order a container, free of charge, one week beforehand? Questions: I have about 7 poles of 2,5 meter each and 6cm diameter. Isn't a container a bit of overkill for this? Also, do I understand correctly that each specific type of garbage has specific days when it is picked up and I have to wait for those days to come by?

Wooden poles might (should?!) have been treated and therefore probably do not qualify as Bioabfall. Bioabfall is typically whatever kitchen remains you have, grass, leaves, twigs, flowers etc, everything that has not been chemically "ruined"

Simply take the poles to your local recycling centre and get help in sorting that out.

The city of Zurich will come and collect assorted stuff like this from your doorstep for a fee of about chf90 for the first 15 mins it takes them to load stuff and more thereafter. You are meant to sort it into categories and make available outside your building at 7am on the agreed date. Call the number and arrange a date https://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/ted/de/index/entsorgung_recycling/sauberes_zuerich/raeumung_entruempelung.html

In my small village, I can bring anything to the local "Wertstoffsammelstelle" (glass, paper, oil) and have it disposed there free.

Some stuff costs money (anything metal that isn't simple tin-cans) or your wooden poles would be an example of that.

In Zurich, you'd probably transport it to one of the "Recyclinghof" locations.

Your car is weighted, then you dispose of the garbage and the car is weighted again - you pay the difference.

Old computers - you should be able to hand them in to any outfit that sells computers. Though, if you have a really large amount of stuff, they might bail on it.

You can dispose whatever you wanna, at the store where you bought the stuff from.

Speak to the customer service/reception desk.

I just went around disposing my stuff to the following places - Ikea, FortuneArt, toptipp, Obi/Micasa etc.

This includes their cartons/thermocol/packing too.

Electronic stuff can be disposed at any electronic store - mediamarkt, fust, etc

There is a recycle center close to IKEA Dietlikon.

They will take many stuffs for free.

Another solution is finding the recycling place from the map. For example, coop bau+hobby takes car battery for free.

And muelliland is open 24hours.

They'll take anything except your mother-in-law.

Yeah, I was surprised how generous they are.

Yet, some stupids are leaving bulky stuff on Sundays.

So far, I could not find another place to dispose of any garbage conveniently around ZH. I am also curious to find such a place because I am moving out very soon.

I gonna soon start a moving sale on EF though.
