Where do you guys check the weather forecast?

Hi everyone.

I would like to find a good weather forecast website for Switzerland.

Which website do you normally check?

Which one do you consider the most reliable?

Thanks

The best is the yahoo app you get on ipad ipod

I try not to, since it looks quite depressing for a few days

www.meteosuisse.ch

I've found the websites rarely agree. One will say rain, the other will say bright sunshine. Neither one is particularly accurate.

The best solution, I find, is to pop my head out the window each morning.

I really like this site, especially their hour-by-hour feature:

http://www.accuweather.com/default.aspx

This is pretty good

meteoblue

I know....I'm just hoping to find a couple of hours during the weekend with no rain to be able to get out of hereeeeeeeeee !

Tages Anzeiger online. It's usually pretty accurate for a general forecast.

For a Daily and weekly forecast I use:

Meteoblue

(click on the individual day for an 'hourly' breakdown of the days weather)

For a current "Rain" Radar I use:

Landi

(Landi is in German though...... but it doesn't matter, it's pretty obvious)

meteo.search.ch is pretty good. There is a 5 day forecast as well as precipitaion/temperature/clouds animations. But what I really like is the graph of the days weather, it shows everything you need. As an example here is the current one for Geneva.

http://meteo.sf.tv/sfmeteo/ has the forecast in writing, pics and the last broadcast one. Plus rain radar map...

Great! thanks so much. I will just light the fire now then

I find the WeatherPro App on the iPhone to be very accurate.

Much more than the built-in one.

The basic version (paid 4.40 back then) covers the day in three-hour windows.

Very useful tips !

Thanks everyone

It is available for some Swiss cities, Geneva, Berne, Locarno, Zurich, Basel

... and check to see what the farmer next door is doing.

If he is fertilizing, it is guaranteed to rain. If he is cutting hay, it will remain dry and sunny for the next day or so.

And if the farmer and his dog are frantically trying to get the sheep to shelter - all hell is about to break loose.

I have no idea where the farmers get their weather forecasts (maybe Landi? I've also heard a rumor that they check with the airports...), but they certainly know when rain is coming, and when it isn't.

When I can't see what the farmer is up to, I check this site:

Similar system elsewhere:

In October, the Indians asked their Chief if the coming winter was going to be cold or not. Not really knowing the answer, the chief replied that the winter will be cold and that the members of the village should collect firewood to be prepared. Better safe than sorry.

Being a good leader, he then went to a phone booth, called the National Weather Service and asked, "Is this winter to be cold?"

The man on the phone responded, "This winter is indeed going to be cold."

So the Chief went back to encourage his people to collect even more wood to be prepared. A week later he called the National Weather Service again, and asked again, "Is it going to be a very cold winter?"

"Yes," the man replied, "it's going to be a very cold winter."

The Chief went back to his people and ordered them to go out and bring back every scrap of wood they could find.

Two weeks later he called the National Weather Service again. "Are you absolutely sure that this winter is going to be very cold?"

"Absolutely" the man replied, "the Indians are collecting firewood like crazy!"

I agree, it's by far the most detailed and most reliable.

I am sorry but I cannot see what the humidity will be in 3 days time, nor what the night temperature will be: both fairly useful to a Swiss farmer.

Humidity in three day's time (click on detailed forecast):

Night time temperature, in three day's time:

But I'll still take a peek out the window to see what the farmer is doing, just to be sure...

If I need to, I e-mail my contacts at MeteoSwiss.
