Where do you sell things?

I really miss EU ebay market for selling. It seems that we are having only access to small Switzerland, yet fragmented between 3 very small competing web sites Ricardo, Tutti, Anibis, to the point that it’s good as well to just put a post card on your local coop message board

I’ve been able to get rid of stuff on Facebook marketplace. It’s a minefield full of scammers and timewasters in so many occasions, but the access is pretty good so I’ve managed to sell most stuff I needed out of the cellar.

Are you blocked from selling on ebay?

Which are all run by the same company… there’s zero appetite to innovate on this.

ebay.ch no-one uses, and facebook is full of scammers.

I find whatsapp groups of friends/acquaintances to be useful - but the best was the old englishforum… sad that we lost that functionality.

Unfortunately all the platforms are full of scammers.

It used to be fun to buy and sell on Ricardo. Not any longer. I intend to try Trovas. There have been a couple of attempts to put up alternatives over the past couple of years. None seemed to have got much traction but I would also be happy to hear of anything that is working well. Facebook is not an option for me.

EF used to be good. We got rid of a lot of baby/toddler stuff that way and there was less likely-hood of scammers.

This. ebay can be used to sell. The issue is that buyers within EU countries don’t want to deal with the import taxes from CH to EU.

ricardo has worked well for me for selling. But…I was dismissed like a scammer once while trying to buy a car part in spite of winning the auction. I was a bit more than assertive about being able to reach seller’s village within 30 mins and pay in cash. The guy apologized when I arrived and told me he already tried to sell the part once without success.

Have you considered Galaxus? https://www.galaxus.ch/en/wiki/6

I myself have only sold rims and tires via Tutti. Mostly to clear out the cellar.

When I moved to Switzerland and wanted to update my address on ebay they closed my account. Later I thought it was some account takeover protection procedure so I wanted to open a new one but it wasn’t possible from Switzerland.

That one is really good but they let you sell only things you bought from them.

the website is there

But not in French, Italian or Romansch. And US to boot.

Of course, it’s a US company with limited user base in Switzerland. Anyway, it’s there.

I still use ebay here. Not to sell but to buy. I used it last week.

I’ve changed my address a few times.

True, but (at least in the UK), ebay will protect the buyer.

e.g. a few years ago (early 2000’s), I won an auction for some stupidly expensive alpine boots… I still remember I was happy to get them for £90 - which as a student was still a lot of money. The seller didn’t send anything, refunded my paypal payment saying his dog chewed them… and then proceed to re-list them on ebay for £350 or so buy-it-now, and they promptly sold.

I messaged ebay and the seller - in the UK auctions are legally binding. When the hammer falls, the boots become my property, and the cash the seller’s property.

ebay offered to refund me the delta between the £90 and the £350, saying that it was as if I had sold the boots, so the money was mine.

Probably an exception, but since then, I was quite happy buying and selling on ebay…

(never bought the boots in the end - saw the new version of them in transa the other week and was tempted to buy them… but alas, my 7000m ambitions are long gone!)

Their commission is pretty high e.g. it would be about 15% on an iPhone. Better to apply that as a discount and flog it on tutti/anibis, then you don’t have the hassle of posting.

In WhatsApp groups in my region. Sold 3 or 4 items on Ricardo, luckily I had only serious buyers, no scammers.
