Lazy is wasting you time posting useless comments on the internet. Not getting up and going out into the world to find out for your self.
I am merely asking for a helping hand as I thought that is what this forum was for. I thought this was supposed to be a supportive community, I hope not everyone in Switzerland is like you.
This forum is extremely supportive when it senses a minimum of personal involvement beforehand. "I got on the tram and realised it doesn't go there" doesn't sound like much of an effort.
I know exactly where the cheap furniture shops are. Before you congratulate me, maybe you too can find them...
Your question smacks of: I am coming to Zürich, please sort out my problems before I get there, be quick about it and have the answer waiting. Have you looked at all ? Have you thought about the question even ?
If I posted the question. "I am coming to Zürich and want a car. Where should I buy one?", it will get a much less considered response than if I indicated the effort I had put in so far to both define the question and solve the problem. That is not even mentioning the resource that is the forum archive.
Have fun,
dave

In North America the best place is craigslist.com. I search it here and there is a craigslist for Zurich and Geneva. There are three requests to the owner of craigslist to create a Lugano section, but it does not yet exist.
So, is there a web site that is comparable to Craigslist for the Lugano area? If not, can you recommend any sources that could be useful here? I read on another thread that a person found furniture at "Arredo Píu near Varese", which I will check out.
Thanks for any help!

I'm sure there are others on here with better local knowledge.
I visited such a place here in Berne and saw some reasonable tables and whatnot, all with 'sold' stickers already on them ... timing is everything, I guess. Lots of good stuff available which would fit with a decor theme "middle class wedding presents 1971" just in case that is a look you were considering. Inexpensive delivery was available.
or for the musically inclined, click here we are now doing John Wayne impressions in the office
Otherwise, for new items, you can also check out Lipo (not sure where they are located around Zurich) Conforama and Jysk...all have cheap and/or reasonably priced items. You should get flyers in your mail for those stores.
Otherwise, check out www.ricardo.ch for individuals selling furniture (look under kleininserat) and www.xpatxchange.ch often has expats who are moving and need to sell furniture quickly. You can post an ad for free saying that you are looking for items.
Good luck!
