Anyone know where these can be bought here? I've never seen them in any Asia store. They're the steamed type that you typically eat with duck.
In an apotheke:
Not quite the same, guess I could give them a go though.
Stop by Suan-Long and ask. They probably make them in house, but they'll probably know where you can buy them pre made.
I have. You can get packs of deep frozen ones. The trick is that this is seriously Chinese, so you will only find them in Chinese run shops, not Thai, Vietnamese or anything else.
I believe the shop on Birmensdorfer Strasse has them. We certainly made roast duck while living in Zurich and that was our default Chinese shop, but I am not 100% certain.
Awesome, will try that one.
Just some quick feedback. Treverus' tip came up tops Lian Hua on Birmensdorferstrasse close to Wiedikon train station had them. They were in the deep freezer. Had to ask the guy on the till though as they said "spring roll wraps" on them. He said they were the right ones and sure enough true to form for Chinese idiosyncratic packaging, once opened up the inner label said "pan cake wraps".
Oh, and although they have a card reader there, you have to pay cash. Another idiosyncrasy of Asia stores Hope this can help out anyone else who wants to do a duck at home. Thanks to all for the help!
I think they accept cards for purchases of 20 CHF or so and over. They explained us once that there is a base fee per transaction and that makes probably no economic sense if a customer buys a pack of pancakes for 2 CHF... wich at least in part explains why a soft drink at a kiosk is as expensive as it is... they just put these fees in their pricing calculation.
