Just wanted to share my latest online purchase of tea bags.
Having very foolishly run out of my stash of tea bags from the UK, I decided to treat myself and order from Betty's ( http://www.bettys.co.uk/ ), based in Yorkshire. I opted for two lots of Yorkshire Tea and two lots of Betty's tea room blend (for when I'm feeling a bit posh!). Delivery was quite steep at £9.50 but I think it's worth it considering I'll be getting 320 tea bags for £12.98.
Was wondering if they would remove VAT and called them up. They very politely reminded me that tea and coffee doesn't have VAT in the UK.
All in all I'm pretty pleased at finding that the makers of Yorkshire Tea deliver here.
I applauded your appointment as a Mod because of your many talents and skills, but I forgot about your illogical pride and honour at being from Yorkshire.
Is there an appeals process? Or alternatively - can you just stop it?
On topic - Swiss tea is better than the chemical laden stuff sold in English tea bags. Yorkshire Tea included
Oy! I've met the family that owns Taylors of Harrogate (who make Yorkshire Tea) and the grandfather IS Swiss! Hence (maybe partly) the quality.
And although Yorkshire Tea is great (blended in Yorkshire to suit Yorkshire water - which is identical to Flumseberg water - ie cold and plentiful) Yorkshire Gold is even better as it has more Assam in it giving a stronger, get up an go breakfast, Yorkshire zing to it.
But tea in boxes is far better than in those bags. Use a filter and let the heated water through. In your tea-bos (es) you even can mix a rich variety of different sorts, and if you like it add things like cinnamon
Important in Switzerland is that you filter the water. I back in 72 had brought back some good teas from London (not yet available here) but the result was a disaster. Until a neighbour pointed to the difference of the water. I since about 1974 always push the water first through the Brita filter, and then have water useful for tea.
You have to make it clear that you do NOT talk about the O-F mainshop but about the O-F English Bookshop on Bahnhofstrasse/Rennweg. Which originally was the Stäheli English Bookshop . But lots of Coop and Migros outlets have lots of English teas.
The point is NOT "cold+plentiful" but the kind of stone. The stone is very important in the case of water, but also in the case of wine (and apparently also beer ! )
Exactly, Wolli - I know the difference between what goes into bags and what is in boxed tea. There is a good reason why there is no ingredient list on tea bags. You don't think that that instant golded colour from tea bags comes from the leaves - do you?
I always ask for a little jug of milk and they nearly always oblige. Probably muttering under their breath as they go but I get my milk (usually for free) and everyone is happy...
There are some Indian shops in Zürich nowadays. I bought 300 PG Tips teabags for CHF9.00 some weeks ago from a shop on the corner of Röntgenstr. and Quellentatrasse. T
