Where to buy Gaviscon?

Hi all,

The missus has a bun in the oven and she's getting to the stage where the heartburn is starting to kick in. In the UK she used to take Gaviscon which helped but can't find it here. The Doctor here prescribed her Alucol gel which doesn't seem to be working so well.

Does anyone know if/where Gaviscon can be picked up in Zurich?

Thanks

Kash.

ask your local pharmacist. I'm sure they can tell you what is available and what the equivalent to Gaviscon is...

It's available in CH so should be able to buy in any good Chemist's.

I use Riopan gel, which comes in tablets or small individual tubes which you rip open and swallow. It's as good as Gaviscon, and available at every pharmacy.

Gaviscon is fine for use in pregnancy. Always ask of course for any medication that it is safe for a pregnant woman.

I be over at end of the month, if you still not got joy, I can bring some over for you and meet up to hand over. Just tell me what favour you want as I think they got a new strawberry one!

Hi Gourmet,

I'll have a look around the local pharmacies as others suggest to see if i can find it (though Coop Vitality didn't have it). If I have no joy, I'll PM you the details.

Thanks Gourmet, and thank you to all those who replied.

Kash.

You'll need to ask for it, it most likely won't be out on the shelves.

I have an unopened bottle in my cupboard (bought at Easter in UK) that I could send you if you don't find it (or a suitable alternative) here.

You probably wouldn't get it before Mondays though.

My sympathies to Mrs Kash_Z. I remember what it was like to have the heartburn even though it was a long time ago now.

Also, if she's pregnant she could mention it to her gynae and she might prescribe something which you can then claim on your health insurance.

Every little helps...

I use Ulcogant Suspension which is very similar to Gaviscon. Comes in handy 5ml sachets so easier to carrying around rather than a bottle.

Should be avaliable over-the-counter in any chemists/pharmacy.

Not quite on the gaviscon topic but when I was PG I always got heartburn at night and the best thing for me was a glass of full fat milk before bed. Really worked. A midwife also told me to chew on almonds and it did actually seem to help.
