Where does HTC Legend fit in then? Is it older? I want the latest and the greatest. Hasn't replacement of Desire already been announced?

There is a new whizzy HD one coming but it appears to have a variety of names.
That depends a bit. There are two top-of-the-line phones right now:
- HTC Desire
- Samsung Galaxy S
It's not a good idea to buy the Desire from a network provider as it'll then be branded and won't get the Froyo update any time soon.
As for the Galaxy S: out of the box, the Galaxy S is sluggish as heck. Even with the JM1 Update (the official new firmware) it's still much slower than the Desire with Froyo or than the iPhone 3GS or 4. However, if you use this little app here:

it becomes extremely fast. This will root your device and you'll have to unroot it again before you send it to Samsung for repairs - they might deny you the warranty coverage if you don't (although this is only an assumption). With the lag fix, the SGS is probably the better phone than the Desire, because it has much more internal memory, a much nicer display and a front-facing camera.
Out of the box, the Desire is the best Android phone money can buy in Switzerland at this time (and by "at this time" I mean the next 4 weeks or so :-) In October, the Desire HD will be released...).

It might go a bit off the original topic now, but I went to a Swisscom shop saturday, and the iphone, the HTC deisre and the Samsung galaxy (which I was thinking about getting) were all not available. Does Switzerland only get 10 new phones delivered a month, or is it just Swisscom that never has any phones? If I decide to get a phone, i'd like to be able to walk out of the shop with it again, not having to wait 6 weeks or more. The lady there couldnt even tell me when the galaxy would become available again...
there's an insanely large market for smartphones in Switzerland. According to Swisscom, the Galaxy S is their second most popular phone (after the iPhone 4). they should be getting a new shipment on August 27.
due to the massive demand for smartphones, there's now a shortage of AMOLED screens. HTC has started to put LCDs in the Desires in order to be able to resume shipments. not sure how Samsung is trying to cope with the massive demand. the Galaxy S sold almost 1000000 times in Korea alone...

if I were you, I'd go to the largest Swisscom store in your neighborhood and pre-order one. traditionally, the bigger stores get more phones more quickly

I pre-ordered 2 HTC desires from Swisscom here in Lausanne. One for me and another for my wife. She doesn't want one now, so if someone in Lausanne is looking for one, in 2-3 weeks there will be one spare at the Swisscom shop. Unless someone snaps it up right away, it should be available.

Are Swisscom the only network with the Samsung Galaxy? I can't see it with Orange or Sunrise.
I wonder do they have the initial rights to it the way 02 had the rights to the iPhone back in 2008. Any ideas?

Anyone had any trouble with the SD card in their Desire? I bought myself a 16gb one so i could use it for music and videos but I keep getting error read messages, when it seems to have copied fine :s
there's s bunch about it on the web but not figured anything out yet...
I got my new HTC desire via auction site ricardo.ch .. for 500 CHF.. good bargain I would say.. but make sure u deal only with trusted/highly rated sellers
