Where to buy tools in Zurich?

Hey,

do you know a good tool store near Zurich where I can buy good tools and not spent too much money?

I found this site https://www.sfs.ch/ with good reviews, and they have good tools, but they seem a bit expensive to me.

I really need some tools to assemble my furniture. That's why I wanted to ask you guys, if you know any other good online shops or stores for tools or if these prices for tools are normal in Switzerland.

I don't want to spend more money than necessary.

Greetings

David

I guess I'm not sure what kind of tools you'd need for assembling furniture other than a (preferably cordless) electric screwdriver/drill. I suggest OBI or Jumbo, as they both have good selections.

Thanks Pancakes ,

I think I'll take a look at their tools next weekend.

Do you know by any chance how expensive they are? So do I have to expect to pay up to 200 CHF or something like that?

I normally buy them one time and use them for like 10 years and I really don't use them that often, I just want to assemble my furniture, and then I probably won't use it till something breaks.

Maybe you couid be more specific about what 'tools' you actually need?

No, I think you'll be able to find something for a lot less than 200 CHF. For assembling, furniture, I'd think that all you'd need is a cordless screwdriver with various bit attachments. I actually bought a cordless screwdriver/drill on amazon.de not long ago that wasn't expensive at all (even has free shipping), and I'm extremely happy with it. It even came with a nice set of bits, and it holds its charge for a very long time. I'll put a link in case you're interested:

https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B08...0?ie=UTF8&th=1

One more thing.... It just occurred to me that if you'd rather not actually purchase anything, you can rent cordless screwdrivers on the website sharely.ch. It's even offered in English:

https://sharely.ch/en

It's a site where people list their various tools to rent out, from their home. You just plug in your zip code and what you're looking for, and it shows you what's available. You could probably find a cordless screwdriver on there, near you, for about 5 CHF per day or less. We've rented carpet cleaner machines through there for less than 5 CHF per day.

My bad

It is like Pancakes already mentioned, I definitely will need an electric screwdriver. Than I thought about buying hammers in different sizes, a hexagon key set, a measuring tape, normal screwdrivers and pliers. I think that's about it. Maybe also spirit levels.

Migros Do It is imo a reasonably priced place in general and has pretty much everything https://www.doitgarden.ch/de/c/49891...q=%3Aprice-asc

IKEA is probably the cheapest but factor in time and cost to get there and not sur on the quality https://www.ikea.com/ch/en/cat/tools-16293/

Thank you, I'll definitely take a look at that. As I don't use them that often, it would make sense renting them

Hornbach. Online or real shop.

Electric screwdrivers

Thanks a lot, I'll take a look at it

thanks they seem to have a great selection

Amazon UK, DE and IT - they ship to Switzerland, and pay taxes/import charges for you.

My makita impact wrench cost substantially less from Amazon - and is backed by amazon's no quibble return policy...

You'll find the cheapest Hornbach Pattfield electric screwdriver is exactly the same as the cheapest Einhell sold at Migros. They are just re-badged Chinese junk.

If you trust your own knowledge to be able to assess the condition of second-hand tools, you could also look on www.tutti.ch , where private persons sell used goods (and some sell new goods, too). For example:

https://www.tutti.ch/de/li/ganze-schweiz?q=borhmaschine

https://www.tutti.ch/de/li/ganze-schweiz?q=stichsage

https://www.tutti.ch/de/li/ganze-sch...dwerk?q=hammer

And in general, you can have a look through the category called "Garten & Handwerk".

Some people will post goods, but you can also set the canton on post-code, so you can go and check, yourself.

My only suggestion is that if buying on line, make absolutely sure that you’re not buying a drill without the battery or vice versa. Happened to a friend here who warned me.

No it wouldn't for such everyday items as you are looking for. A cordless screwdriver you can get, with bits for far less than Chf 100.-- you'll need the same again for hammers, pliers & screwdrivers, if you really need them & hex keys.

Renting....great but when you need the tools you haven't got them and got to phaff around finding them, hoping they are available immediately for rent and going to get them.

For simple everyday things, buy yourself, you always need a tight screw or bang something....

Lastly, buy cheap, buy twice, make sure you get a reasonable quality, maybe not the very best for the limited use you have, but that they are strong enough to do the job and last a lifetime.

Rhyner in Egg is a reasonable option if you want a bit better quality. I paid Chf129 for the set in the link below, this is a must have industrial quality. My first one died after 9 years but put in excess of 20k screws in hardwood decking, the batteries still work (don't leave them flat for too long). https://profi.rhyner.ch/shop/?productID=3449

I`ve found Rhyner to have very good prices on Bosch blue cordless tools, and many other brands, as part of their monthly specials. Same is true for handtools at certain times too. They do a lot of walk in business with the trades so you have to be aware or you'll be paying a premium for that convenience. They have a monthly flier which I think you can get on their website.

You can also find some excellent deals on the Galaxus closeout/clearance pages for tools but it requires time to search and you have to know what the prices are elsewhere. The pictures and descriptions are not always detailed enough to know exactly what you are buying. If you check with the manufacturers part number in the listing you can figure it out usually though.

Landi has some decent quality handtools at reasonable prices as well. I think Conex is the brand. Many are made in Germany and fit and finish is more than adequate for regular use.

If I wanted tools and was starting from scratch, I'd buy the cordless stuff from Rhyner and look at Ricardo for handtools. Its often possible to find assortments of good quality stuff that would cover basic needs at good prices.

If none of that works, I have a lot of extra stuff (name brand, clean and in good condition), and will be moving soon. If you PM me a list of what you want, I`ll see if I can put together a package that appeals to you.
