My 15 y.o.daughter is a 1st year student at gymnase (we live in VD), and she chose maturité bilingue (French/German). For her second year she needs to go to a german speaking area - either to Swiss german part, or to Germany, or Austria.
Do you know any resources/websites where to look for host families that could welcome a teenger for a school year? Gymnase is not helpful in this question at all and I am totally lost.
Thanks. And how did you find a school? Were you just randomly writing to all school in the wanted city asking if they could help?
I myself was an exchange student in the US when I was 16, but it was all organised by a governmental entity and I lived outside EU. I am surprised that there is no informational support here.
It was a slightly different situation as our daughter was transferring to an out of Canton school and we had decided that the commute was too far, so we were looking for a Mon-Friday host. I am surprised that her present school offer no advice as to where would be a good school to go to.
Schools tend to regulate how many exchange students they take on. They also have an interest in seeing that everything is well organised. You could choose a couple of target towns and then write to what looks like a suitable school. An exchange is a great opportunity.
Our school always had AFS students…they do operate in DE. They arrange a host family, too. I just don’t know whether you can apply from CH, because CH is not on their list of serviced countries.
Thank you for the links! Still hoping to find some cheaper options, but if nothing pops up, at least there is a paid alternative (an year with a host-family in Germany costs around 15K euro)
