Hope you are well. I moved from London to Basel. Due to a long-term condition, I am looking for a physio in Basel who has trained in the Commonwealth/British/South African/Australian system. Look forward to your recommendation. Many thanks!
It is more about the training system and discipline. UK physio can act like a doctor in terms of my knee joint condition. I don’t want to always fly back to London to get the therapy. So hopefully I can find a physio locally in Basel. Thanks.
When i ruptured my knee ligaments I had crossklinik in Basel as my physio. Can’t recommend them high enough. I am skiing, weightlifting and running for years now with no problems.
You could get a referral from your GP (Hausarzt). If you can perhaps get your medical records from your UK doctor, it would help your doctor here narrow down an appropriate equivalent here?
The physios that come to work in Switzerland have to work within the framework of the Swiss medical and insurance system anyway so it’s unlikely that a physio here would be able to provide a service outside of this framework.
Thank you very much, Shirley. I already received a referral from my family doctor/GP in Switzerland, who is very nice and supportive. She is also looking for a good physio for me. I presume there is a long waiting queue at the moment. Now I am seeing a local physio who can’t do as much as my UK physio can. My symptoms have gotten more severe recently. Therefore, I intend to find an alternative. Will see if my GP will come back with some good news. Thank you again.
I started to have calcification around my knee joint. Waiting to discuss the MRI result with the doctor. Sports-wise, I am doing snowboarding, hiking, and horse riding. So will be gentle with sports for now till I hear further from my doctor.
Perhaps widen your search? ZĂĽrich, Bern, Lausanne, Geneva and everywhere in between can be accessed easily on public transport. Zermatt might have a few knee specialists and is under 31/2 hours away. And with less hassle than London.
As I mentioned above, crossklinik are great. They are the physio clinic of the Swiss Olympic teams (or at least were until a few years ago) and their objective is not merely to “fix” you, but to make you active again. Their facilities and the sheer size of the clinics and breadth of specialists is top notch.
Lovely. Thank you very much. I just browsed their website. As you mentioned, they seem very professional in making you active in beloved sports again. Thanks again for your recommendation.
That’s been our (my wife and me) experience of surgeons and physios in Switzerland, that they are geared up to ensure you can return to your chosen sport if that’s what you want.
Unlike physios in the UK who can still display a “well you can walk almost without limping, my job is over” attitude, they will continue to work with you just as long as you feel there are improvements to be made.
My most recent physio is now, thankfully, quite a few years ago, but I was quite a regular user following a major back injury and then later through a couple of knee and shoulder issues. The guys I was using over quite a long period were these https://ptkraftwerk.ch/
I particularly liked that they had a fully equipped gym which you could use for free, even after your actual treatment was finished, and were able and willing to direct your own personal workouts to best address specific recovery needs.
