For the first time in my life I've been diagnosed with low blood pressure - usually the opposite but all it took was getting pregnant to switch it up (surprise surprise!). My OB gave me a prescription to get some stockings which I thought was a bit silly until I almost fainted on the train this morning so once I eventually find someone at my insurance company who speaks english and can answer if they are covered, just wondering where one goes to get these?
I asked her and thought I knew where she was talking about, but alas, nope. Figured there has to be a few places around so thought I'd see if anyone had a suggestion and address - either in Zürich city or down the west side of the lake.
Thanks!
Honestly if they have them on amazon.co.uk buy them there, I get my diabetic socks from there!
You can take your prescription to the pharmacy and they'll sort you out with custom-made tights
any pharmacy? She made it sound like you had to go to a special place - no? would be so much easier!
I had the same problem when I was pregnant. I went to the neighborhood pharmacy and they measured my legs in several places and custom fit me for two pairs. My insurance paid.
http://www.hausmann.ch/sanitaet/index.html Try Hausmann on Uraniastrasse in Zurich (next door to Brasserie Lipp), just off Bahnhofstrasse and opposite Modissa. They have a good selection of orthopaedic equipment and will probably stock compression stockings in all sizes and colours
Any pharmacy should have them or be able to order them.
Basic or supplemental insurance? As I've only been here for 4 months, i don't get to use my supplemental for anything pregnancy related...
Just head to the pharmacy...I'm pregnant and have been wearing them for a couple months now...they work quite well (although I'm really happy to take them off by the end of the day, I have to admit). There are ones that go just to the knee and ones that are thigh-high (and to the waist, I think, but you wouldn't want those with the growing belly!). I paid for them in cash and will send in the receipt to insurance...but since you have a prescription it may be different for you. Just a warning as well...they will "teach" you how to put them on and off using rubber gloves...was a really funny experience for me! Good luck to you...and congratulations!
I had supplemental, but my regular insurance paid for all prescriptions.
If you have a prescription, they will make a special pair for you that has a waist that can be extended for your growing belly. From what I've heard from friends abroad, the ready to wear kind are less comfortable in that respect.
I loved mine, my legs felt about ten pounds lighter when I first put them on!
Not sure if your interested but I have a pair that go to the top of each leg which I wore for exactly 5 minutes. They were prescribed for me when pregnant and I couldn't stand them. They were crazy expensive and my insurance didn't cover as I hadn't reached my deductible yet.
They are a medium.
Just a thought. You could go in, get measured etc and if you are also a med, PM me.
I'll let them go for much much less
