Where to find steel cut oats in Zurich area?

Hi Everyone here,

I am coming from the US, where I would buy "Bob's Red Mill" brand of steel cut oats. I am in Zurich since 2 months now, and have been trying to find anything similar in Migros or Coop, but I only find rolled oats (and its variants). Please guide. Thanks

No idea what "steel cut oats" are but maybe try in a Reformhaus (they are health food shops dotted around the city) which might sell a wider variety of prepared cereals than the supermarkets.

You could order here .

Strange it's on offer in a "junk food shop" but who cares, eih?

Anyone who can tell me what that is in German?

Googled it, if it helps (but it's only in English):

From here .

It's apparently cut oat - while around here, oat is squished. The cut oat is - also apparently - better for porridge.

And to OP: Seems difficult to find around here and Germany and if one does it's expensive. So my link above might be your best option.

I call BS.

Nobody picks up Swinglish that quickly.

OP is not saying he/she is a US citizen :-)

In that case, well done OP.

I squeeze the thumbs that you find steel cut oats.

I believe you might want to ask for "Hafergrütze"

Likely won't find in Migros or Coop, I have ordered from Schwarzenbach, online link here

(Or you can pick up in-person at one of their store locations downtown Zurich - also on website)

You can also order "Küstengold" brand from Amazon Germany, haven't found anyone in Switzerland carrying it. However, shop around - prices vary widely, Mytown.de very competitive

Good luck!

You can find them in Müller Reformhaus. I think they are called Haferschrot. Just read the post above, yes, I think they are also called Hafergrütze.

YES, that's it! And now you can buy it at lots of places

You can buy it on amazon.de

I'd try the Reformhaus. Ask for "Schrot": they will make it with whatever grains are available on the spot in their own mill. I love it to make water porridge. Hate milk though ;-) You can ask if they could make it in different grades and pick the grade you like best.

Just thought of sharing that I found it in Reformhaus. CHF 2.9 for 500gm, and it tastes quite good.
