Where to live near Zurich/zug/Lucerne/aarau ?

Hi,

So life changes and after living 10+ years is Neuchatel area (on the countryside) and just 2 year house owner I, my wife (and 1y kid) got the crazy idea it would make sense to move closer to Zurich area.

Not to live *in* Zurich, but just closer.

There are many drivers but getting the kid and seeing how many more activities and especially social activities there are compared to what we can find in neuchatel is just mind boggling

Other factors been easier access for family (airport) and a more vibrant community for both social and work areas.

So now we are in Zurich area looking around but somewhat exploring blindly. Was hoping to might get some pointers in here.

Optimally we would like to buy out here and hope it is doable since we do not need to live in the hot spots.

But we are keeping our Options open including staying in neuchatel area

So, anyone with tips on where to live that is not in center of the cities, zurich being fairly reachable (max. 40-60 min commute), near (20-30 minutes) of activities/school for kid, houses not too crazy expensive (got a 900.000 one now, but aware I'll probably have to push past 1-1.2m to go live in this area) ...and yes we love Lucerne area for the scenery but are open for other areas...we just haven't had time to see them all

Tips/recommendations/single family house offers welcome!

Based on your description I would recommend looking into the Säuliamt. This is more or less the Affoltern am Albis district.

The region is proximal to Zug, Zurich and Luzern. All can be reached within 30 minutes by car. The airport is 25-40 minutes away depending on traffic. 45 minutes to the mountains. In reality, its very central and convenient when looking at the BIG picture.

That being said...one must be careful where to live elevation wise. recommend anything over 650m or more. But really...below 500m it can be quite oppressive with the fog from coming off of the Reuss. But these areas tend to be cheaper!

hehe - thanks for the tip; In Neuchatel I never lived at the lake for this reason.

I'll take a look at Sauliamt, it was on my short list of areas to explore but train connections looked "poor". Maybe good bus connections to near train stations ?

We live in a village in the south part of the region...it is serviced by two bus lines and there is seldom an issue getting around (even at 4am on saturday). Some of the smaller villages (Maschwanden, Rifferswil, others) are cut off after 8pm...just study the bus lines (or ask me) to know more.

From Affoltern am Albis to Zurich HB its just over 28 minutes. Luzerne is the only location that is not directly accessible (transit through Zug or Zurich).

We love the ability to be on the slopes or one of three cities all under 1 hour. The highway through the region is quite accessible.

Just to make sure I read you right - did you really say this area has 4am busses to/from the trains ?

Such a luxury is restricted to Fridays and Saturdays. Midnight on weekdays is also quite easy. But again...One needs to live near the correct bus lines...The 215 for example.

okey - been looking on comparis.ch but seems there are very few "normal" houses for sale in that area (ignoring the multi-million luxury villas for now
