Which data roaming eSIM for EU & CH Tourists?

Relatives coming to CH, IT FR and DE. Need a prepaid data plan. No calls needed...

This hasn't been asked in 4 years, so I think the answer will have changed, and eSIMs are widely available and compatible (not a physicial sim, you keep your existing sim but turn the data roaming off,a nd use eSIM for data roaming).

Here goes:

- relatives coming to Europe and CH. they have iPhones

- they need a data only eSIM so they can use it for data roaming

- most online ones I see dont cover CH (or else claim to cover the whole globe - nor credible)

Please recommend one you or a relaitve has used successfully, or confirm if the following legit and good? They state they provide data for EU (and CH!)

HOLAFLY Airolo sells a "eurolink" eSIM simoptions.com - they seel an ornage esim europe and cliam the eSIm doesnt need to be registered (they charge 10 euro more than orange, who say yes you do need to register the sim)

I am tired of looking so these seem to be the top ranked sites for htis kind of thing.

(yes I woudl tell them just get a swiss eSIM form Salt, Lebara or Sunrise on arrival, but they arrive in Germany, and go to Italy too)

cheers!

Going from Switzerland to those countries I use Ubigi.

They have individual packages for all of those countries except Germany. For Germany you need to buy and EU/Swiss/U.K. package which obviously covers the other countries you are interested in.

Package can be bought in different GB sizes.

An update:

Go comparison shopping on:
https://esimdb.com/
https://esims.io/

Get the apps from:
https://mobimatter.com/
https://www.airalo.com/

Right now Mobimatter have the best rates (on esimgo) for Europe. Have been using it in several countries with great results.

If your Android phone doesn’t natively support eSim, get an eSim ‘adapter’ from esim.me
https://esim.me/

Free eSim with 1GB of global data allowance: https://www.telefon-treff.de/forum/t…dern/?pageNo=1

With an iPhone just point the camera at the QR code and follow the link to install the eSim. Instructions can be found on the homepage of Betterroaming. Note: the QR code on the homepage of Betterroaming doesn’t give 1GB of free data.

It works. Have used it in several countries. It is not a scam. No strings attached. Truphone (a long established mobile data roaming wholesale provider) are launching a new service under the Betterroaming branding.

Those Mobimatter rates are much cheaper than Ubigi. Will give them a go next time I’m abroad. Thanks.

These are really good rates! Does anyone know if they work with a mobile router also?

Otherwise will read into it and post update.

I have not seen any mobile routers that support eSim. However the following process would work. a) get an esim.me eSim 'adapter' card, b) stick the esim.me card into an Android phone and then load an eSim onto the esim.me eSim 'adapter' card (using the esim.me app) c) move the esim.me eSim 'adapter' card into the mobile router.

The esim.me eSim 'adapter' card works just like a normal sim card. The app is only used to load/program eSim onto the physical sim card. Once that is done, the esim.me card can be moved between devices just like any other sim card.

Many eSim can be refilled with data allowance. If for example you purchase an esimgo esim through the Mobimatter app or website, then that esim can simply be refilled through the app/website. Access to the esim is not required for refilling. The same applies to Betterroaming.

The esim.me licensing options are confusing. It is important to understand that the licensing options only relate to the app that is used to program the physical sim card and not to how or where the actual physical sim card can be used. For most users the cheapest option with either two or five concurrent esim profiles will be perfectly sufficient.

Thanks, need to try this!

I’d never seen these eSIM converters before. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, will use it on an upcoming trip.

Free 1GB offer is limited. From above link

Looking for more recent Infos for good Esim providers for Worldwide travel.

Thank you!

I used this one for Italy, France, Germany and some Eastern Europe. It worked in Switzerland as well. The data rates weren’t great, but it was sufficient for Google maps, web browsing and YouTube videos.
Monty eSIM
The recharges using the same eSIM.
There were cheaper ones I tried but some had issues like not working in some of the claimed countries.
