which lake is The Lake?

Which of the lakes-- Zurich, Lucerne, or Geneva -- is considered the "pearl" of them all? The best know or most storied, or the "flagship" lake of the country? If any....

to the EF!

A matter of taste and local pride ... locals will tell you that their lake is the best

My choice is Lucerne Lake with the mountains towering above it ... I am sure that others will have their favorites.

Kind of like asking which of your kids is your favorite isn't it?

A VERY stupid question! They are ALL very flat and ALL are very wet!

Greg, of course ....... and I believe in Father Christmas.

Exactly, how can you choose one from all these..

Fixed your link for you.

To answer part of your question, I would say Lac Leman (Lake Geneva to anglophones) is probably the most famous outside of Switzerland. Which is the most beautiful is purely a matter of tatse, my preference being Lake Lucerne.

Lakes are not notable. Otherwise Basel would have one.

There is a lovely new one in my cellar. With a waterfall down the stairs. It's quite the most breathtaking sight when the sunlight catches it in the right way

I thought there was a really long, really thin lake in the centre of Basel.

That's the famous Basel open sewer.

Lugano, for sure!

Neuchatel is the largest Swiss lake, Constance is the largest partially Swiss lake.

All of which you failed to mention!

Tom

That's the chemical pollution: dumped from Canton Valais, by BASF & Syngenta,

Wrong. That would be Lake Geneva.

And Neuchâtel is the largest lake entirely within Switzerland

Yep - my vote goes fort Neuchatel lake

I personally like the lake(s) in Lenzerheide

What's nice about Switzerland is that (from what I've seen), all the lakes are very clean... and very beautiful.

I must say, though, that I found Lake Geneva and Lake Lucerne the most breath-taking in terms of views.

Switzerland has at least twice as many lakes as you'd think.

For my money, Vierwaldstättersee is much more attractive than Lake Lucerne.
