Lots of obvious ones mentioned already, but didnt see these mentioned yet (or skimmed over them):
Treme (probably closest to the Wire as about real post Katrina New Orleans)
Lilyhammer is kinda fun if you liked the Sopranos
Raising Hope, has a good 20 minute format.
Hell on Wheels, is a Deadwood like show
Nashville
Smash, both fun in a grown up Glee format
Band of Brothers, was a series of mini-films about WW2 battles Spielberg prod values
Second the comment about House of Lies, which at first seems just offensive, but is very amusing esp if you know the type...
metacritic.com for me has the best TV review-consolidation and I regularly have a trawl there when Im running low on files
IMDb: Carrie Mathison, a CIA operations officer, is on probation after carrying out an unauthorized operation in Iraq. As a result, she has been reassigned to the Counter terrorism center. Whilst in Iraq, she was warned that an American prisoner had been turned by Al-Qaeda. When Nicholas Brody, a U.S. Marine Sergeant, is rescued after being held hostage since 2003, she suspects that he is the turned American prisoner. Brody is received home as a war hero, so Carrie goes to any lengths possible, ignoring protocol, to catch him out.
Game of Thrones is also good, but it's based on fantasy.
Last Resort is another new show that I like..
Weeds
Six Feet Under
Dead Like Me
True Blood
American Horror Story
Walking Dead
Dexter
There was an US adaptation that is really quite good too, and a different plot.
"You are being watched",,,,
One of the better US series that I've watched since M*A*S*H ( no correlation ) in a long while .
I really like Finch, such a cool nerdy dude.
Did people like it?
Person of interest, now that i like. But i wonder how long it can go?
I can see however that there is room for redemption. There is a lot to work with there for season 3.
Yeah, she's really getting on my nerves now as well. Let's hope she can hold it together.
As for other series, I haven't watched most of the ones recommended here. They all seem so dark.
Once Upon a Time I only like because the evil queen had rocking outfits and she's driving my next car. The second season went off the rails. Even more so than Homeland.
I do like The Good Wife. And I also quite like Revenge. CC, you probably won't like it though. It's OTT and a bit of a pastiche of the Dynasty/Dallas genre. At least I think it is. If it wasn't done ironically then there's a problem.
David Simon is a bit of a genius IMO
The complete opposite of that is Boardwalk Empire, which seemed a bit disjointed the first two seasons, and then HOLY CRAP just blew me away last season when a lot of things just came together. Already great visually, it became a great drama this season, IMO.
Then cleanse your palette with Eastbound and Down . It's a comedy series, no doubt, but with lots of subtle detail and poignant moments hidden behind the main character's narcissism and beautiful mullet. Awesome soundtrack too. I've watched all 3 seasons twice (and I have zero free time, that comes out of my sleep ).
