Who repairs furnaces?

My furnace (the big diesel thing in the cellar that heats the house) has an issue - it blows the fuse every time I reset it.

I called the kaminfeger that comes twice a year to inspect, but they don't do repairs...

Any idea who can call? I'm near Lenzburg...

I have a service contract with Meier Tobler. I've found them to be very efficient when we've had issues. https://www.meiertobler.ch/de/

Don't you have any sticker there of who installed it? Swiss craftsmans love to leave those stickers, and sometimes (like in your case) they can be useful. I live in an old apartment building, but I can easily find: who installed electricity, who made new chimney, who changed the water filtering system, washing machines, etc....

Otherwise, check the maker of the furnace, check the importer site...

Ours is done through the manufacturer (Hoval), I'd guess most of the main brands have either their own people or a set of accredited companies and could help you.

TBH I suspect we could get a better deal locally, but heating is one of those things that I just don't want to have a problem with in the dead of winter.

We normally get service by next day. In an emergency it's same day. They've only let us down once, and that was routine maintenance. Admin issue. The engineer when he turned up apologised profusely.

I even bought shares in them. Which promptly collapsed in value...

Like NewtoSwiss, I have a service contract with the manufacturer, in this case Elco. The technician comes once per year for maintenance, and the contract includes a call-out service that will send someone within 24 hours in case of a breakdown.

Even if you don't have a contract, call the manufacturer's office in Switzerland. They should be able to arrange a service technician, or at least direct you to a local heating guy able to work on your model.

And do look for those stickers, either on the furnace itself or on the service record, which is usually a little booklet mounted on the wall nearby. The last tech to service the furnace should be listed there.

Failing all that - my Gemeinde lists a heating company under their emergency numbers. This guy acts as the general Notfalldienst. I'd guess many other communities have similar emergency listings.

Hope it gets fixed soon...

I recommend you contact the manufacturer service instead of the installer. They tend to know the machines better and have all spare parts on hand. You might also want to check for a short...

Tried calling them a few times (on the Italian line as my German is pretty poor) with no response... in the meantime, found two companies:

1- company 1 should have been here 15 minutes ago, said he didn't know the model and didn't have experience with this manufacturer... but could come "have a look"...

2- called the chimney sweep, who remembered who serviced it before we bought the house, who in turn remembered who fitted it (I got help on these calls from a Swiss native!)... they said they may be able to come out tomorrow morning... fingers crossed!

The funniest one I found (online) essentially said (in thick Swiss German) "It's lunchtime, don't bother me, call back later"... then hung up. That was a fun call...

I'm pretty sure it's a short... but no idea why it would suddenly short out!

Manufacturer no longer exists, so contacting the manufacturer isn't an option. (Olymp).

The main moving part and significant power usage is in the fuel pump motor, and they can wear out and simply break eventually.

Olymp seem to still be around, if it's this one: https://www.olymp.at/?lang=en

btw, twice a year for the kaminfeger sounds a bit much!

True! We get it once a year - the frequency is mandated by the gemeinde.

It's mandated by the Gemeinde, you don't have much say sadly...

It was the preheater that was dead in the end. Ended up replacing the whole burner unit, including pump, motors, controllers, etc... so essentially have a brand new furnace...

get a manual and learn to debug it yourself. i found that repair guys just like to replace things randomly and charge you for it.

the guy wanted to replace my preheater too. he didn't realise the thermistor wasn't attached properly to the preheater unit so didn't detect it as properly hot. i just zip tied them together after he left...
