Who to notify after renouncing US citizenship?

After two years of waiting for an appointment in Bern and $2350 lighter, I am finally rid of my US citizenship after receiving the 'Certificate of Loss of Nationality' this week. Now I know I need to update my bank, company pension fund, 3rd pillar pension, etc. and my employer.

Is there anyone else that it would be useful to notify? The tax office for example? Do they mark you as a 'US Person' to exchange tax info with the USA or have I understood incorrectly?

By the way, for anyone interested, the CLN arrived within 2 weeks of the renunciation appointment - which they are scheduling once again, albeit currently with approx one year wait.

Well depending on your other nationality and/or Permit status, you should inform your control des habitants . You might qualify for a lower auto insurance policy too.

I’d have thought anything of benefit like that would already be in the new/other nationality I imagine only financial institutions care.

I have no idea, but with the efforts you’ve made, and the hoops jumped through, I imagine you are feeling relieved and accomplished. Congratulations. I’ve never thought of renouncing - all though I researched after some of the previous administration’s actions.

I only informed my bank when we got a mortgage. They had me down as "not a US citizen, not born in the US" despite that I had opened my account 25 years earlier with a US passport!

Similar for us when we went to get our mortgage; bank didn’t have me down as US despite the fact that I’d entered Switzerland on my US passport and my permit had me down as American. Our bank manager had to make a few calls to get approval for us to get the mortgage.

OP, if you did as I did and entered the country on your US passport and it’s on your permit then go to your cantonal migration office and get it changed to your other nationality. Wasn’t anyone else I informed except for the banks.

Well, I naturalized as a Swiss citizen, so that was already updated with my insurance providers, which did provide a lower rate for auto insurance only.

Regarding the cantonal tax office, do they need to know I've renounced my US citizenship or does the reporting to the IRS go only via the banks and other financial institutions? That's not so clear to me.
