I want to purchase a Wii U console for my son for Christmas. I would also like to be able to purchase games for him in the future that are English language. Does anyone have any experience with compatibility issues? I'm concerned that if I purchase a game from Amazon.com or .UK, that it won't be compatible with his Swiss game console. Some of the games I've seen at the store here in Switzerland have several languages, but some only have German/French/Italian. I talked to the guys at GameStop, but they didn't seem to be very knowledgeable on the subject.
This is regarding the regular Wii, and not a WiiU, but I know I have bought games on Amazon.co.uk and they have worked as well as ones bought at .de or locally...
I haven't yet bought one with at amazon.com Did you check on google?
ETA: according to Wikipedia they are region coded - but within Europe is one region. Games from the US, however, wouldn't work.
The Wii U is region locked, so games from America won't work or Japan won't work, but games from UK will work. There are 3 different region locks USA (NTSC-U) Japan (NTSC-J) and Europe (PAL) , so you are on the safe side ordering from a UK shop
Too bad you are not down in this end of the country. Media Markt in Aigle (Vaud close to the Vallais border) has the Wii U Premium Pack on special until Saturday for CHF 299.95
The model comes with the console and Mario Kart 8. It is 32 go, WiFi and accepts SD cards.
Perfect! That is exactly what I needed to know! I did hours and hours worth of research before moving here, but never found such a clear explanation. Thank you!
Yes - Wii U is quite old technology now. We got ours for Christmas 2012 (hmmm for the kids ). Lots of fun and you can play without the TV. Pity it took 2 years for people to start buying them.
I bought Mariocart 8 recently and there were different versions for sale here in different lanugages. There were plenty available on Toppreise with English.
If you search for a game on wog.ch it tells you if the Swiss version is in English. That said, I normally buy all my playstation games from amazon.co.uk, usually a lot cheaper and guaranteed to be in English.
Wii U premium pack with Super Mario Brother U & Super Luigi U for 288 CHF on microspot.ch only for today. This is very good price, wii U is still great for the kids, lots of exclusives which are not on ps / xbox
You change the language on the Wii settings. We have a load of games from the UK and DE/CH. Pikmin and Mariokart8 with the box in German have English as well. WOG is one of the smarter sellers that says this: http://www.wog.ch/index.cfm/details/...8-Mario-Kart-8 and lists the languages.
