Was wondering if anyone can offer any info. on the Wildnis Park in Zurich.
I have seen it mentioned on a few sites as a good day out with kids. Apparently its possible to see animals in their natural habitat and get to spend time exploring the forest. All sounds good but if I decide to make the trip it will be by train and Google maps says there is a 40 minute walk to the location given on their website. This doesn't bother me but my 4 year old companion might not be too pleased about it!
So, would be interested in hearing from anyone who has been here and if they would recommend it for a day out with a young child. Also, the best options for public transport there from Zurich.
i'm not sure about a 4 year old, add at least a 0 on the end of that and you will have a fantastic time. or if you take some dogs they will have a fantastic time.
it was what i considered a bit of an adventure taking the dogs by train and all, it was my first day trip in switzerland.
spoilers coming..
lovely lot of wolves that you can play spot the wolf with, they hide a bit in their den
fantastic wild pigs with tufty ears and intelligent eyes that you can go into an enclosure and pet, if i had a had a raisin on me i would have have slipped them one even though its not allowed. they reacted to my dogs like a team!
wild swiss cats that look like big house cats
when i was there they had a pig that had just had beautifully coloured piglets, with them running around it was hard to count them.
no bears but you might get lucky
very pretty forest so a nice walk, take a stroller and enjoy yourself
the cafe served a quite nice slice of lemon cake and espresso
Wasn't too sure about all the walking for my 4 year old but sounds like there is plenty there to keep him entertained along the way.
Stroller not an option anymore as during the past year he's turned into a proper Swiss kid and walking everywhere, so it's gathering dust in the cellar.
We will take it easy and bring some raisins for the pigs!
You can enter the park from several sides. If you go by train to Thalwil, you can use the same ticket and continue with the bus nr. 240 to the station "Langnau a.A.,Schwerzi-Wildpark". From there it's only five minutes or so on fairly flat terrain till you reach the park on foot.
I live right near there, it's actually pretty cool! If you take the S4 to wildnispark hofli i can't imagine the back entrance would be more than a 10 minute walk
they have a good array of animals and it's just a nice spot to walk around.
