Will we get an energy crunch from the Iran conflict?

I think I remember reading that in wartime thst the president can invoke emergency powers.

well, as far as I understand, the answer would be ‘yain’ For example, the president can not stall upcoming election(s)…

It’s only a war if Congress says it’s a war. Which they haven’t done.

Details, details.

He can’t pull oil out of his hat

The US are a net oil exporter. So no, a grinding halt isn’t in the cards. What would likely happen is higher gas prices at the pump, something voters are notoriously sensitive to and the GOP wants to avoid given the upcoming midterm elections.

Not all oils are the same, depending on the refinery there are different end products

It’s a question of balance and mixture

Those are the first obvious and measurable impacts. That fertilizers needed by global farmers come out of the ME, and a number of other petroleum by-products should also be factored in, in my opinion.

DJT’s war is just not really different form a 13 year old making decisions without any level of maturity …

Today Morocco is the only major supplier of fertilizer products still in business

Think about Cueta

Canada exports a lot of potash.

Kindly list those totally important fringe products with the potential to force the entire US economy to a grinding halt.

US will just impose export bans and it will be the rest of the world that will have shortages.

Perhaps we will See clippers Return to the Guano Islands.
We would have to fight America because of the guano Act from 1856 though.

Beer cans are more expensive because of the aluminum shortage.

Energy crunch? Business couldn’t be better.

And China is doing just fine and also laughing to the bank.

Because many U.S. refineries were historically built to handle heavier foreign crude, the U.S. frequently exports lighter domestic crude to other nations while importing heavier crude types that fit its refinery infrastructure

Keep digging

I’m starting to miss the Covid times: when I could work from home in pyjamas 5 days a week, save on TAGI costs, and buy heating oil for 60 CHF.

Diesel crack spreads have exceeded $100!

The crack spread is the profit that oil refiners make by converting crude oil into oil product.

It seems that the stress is not coming from crude oil (yet) but oil refining capacity.

Ukraine war disrupted Russian refining and Iran war may have blocked diesel exports out of Hormuz.

Bond markets getting ‘yippy’. Time for a Tuesday TACO from Trump/Bessent?
