2 weeks ago I bought my 18 year old daughter a Nokia phone running windows something or other (mobile 8 I think) and she loves it. Not so many apps but the main things are catered for.
With the high prices of apple macs I was thinking of taking a look at windows again, but maybe I won't bother after all.
I'm using a Nokia Lumia with Windows since a couple of months and love it too. Application avaliability is a bit limited but the Windows user interface is fantastic. Used Android and iOS before but this is way better.
My child is a bit too old for dinosaur games (she's 31), problem is I can't install the driver for the GSM dongle on it, nor can I load Firefox, and am stuck with Windows BS!
What kind of computer tom ? RT is really only for tablet systems, I.e. Apps from the App Store and browsing. There should be no requirement to install drivers or software on it. For that you would use the full version of windows 8.
Just a case of turning on Personal Hotspot, under Settings, and entering the code on her tablet, when it finds the wifi network; or can connect with a cable.
Sold the wrong horse tom if the salesman knew that at the time. RT is closed in terms of os level modification, it's by design - for the solution you want, to add drivers, you should be using full windows 8.1 home edition or above. Think of RT as like an iPad - you couldn't install your own dongle onto an iPad either.
The suggestion by Timow is for me the solution. Turn your iphone into a hotspot it's a one press of a button job and your away.
And yet in the last 5 years Microsoft shares have gone up consistently and remained solid over the last 10. How is this possible if the company is on its way to the wall ?
