Today wingo cheerfully lets you know that the “life long” special prices will rise Fr. 1.00 from July 2025.
That’s okay, they say, explaining the original contracts - your “life long special” is based on - also rises Fr. 1.00. ONLY that special price was never based on in % of the original price. But a fix price for the chosen model. Fix for life means not rising!
The reason they give for this is that from July 1st all mobiles run on 5G.
I have no idea whether I live long enough to get 5G where I live.
I mainly use my handy at home, I dumped home connection ages ago.
When I’m out I’m out = my handy is only with me in case of emergency as out in the world I tend to communicate with who’s there and look at / listen to my environment.
I wonder if they will get through with that stunt?
I don’t know about Wingo but sometimes it help to make a call and a provider may agree to revert the price for a trade-off, i.e. with Salt it was switching from an auto-prolonged contract to a fixed contract for 2 years with further auto-prolongation.
That’s not my point (and Fr. 1.00 is not worth it, which I bet they count on. Not to mention calling wingo costs an arm and a leg).
My point is wingo (=Swisscom) are not reliable contract partners. They are becoming trumpian.
Plus they won’t deliver what they claim is their reason (5G) but let everybody pay for it.
Yeah of course I see your point. It’s good to know that such offers are worth nothing then =)
In my case there was no such promise but the increase was comparable yet I did it as a matter of principle =) It’s me and my wife, and who knows, maybe they’d do it again a year after year with varying increases.. =)
you did what as a matter of principle?
I’ve not had a “normal” deal for a long time. I thought their prices are fix for a year or two usually. But that had to do with fix contract duration and I think they have stopped that? (A good thing).
Guess they realized with people turning 90 and 100 years old easily, the offer is not a good idea. Still, it’s a breach of contract.
over a long time it can add up quite a bit for 2 person’s, why not try to stop it or slow it down with a simple call
I don’t want to become a stale client in their pool whom they milk, I want providers to keep competing by lowering prices, and this kind of service is something that can or should be becoming cheaper over time even with inflation accounted for xP
That’s exactly it, the devil is in the detail. They offer you a discount for life but if the base price increases then what you pay increases even with the discount.
So wingo did change the detail of ‘fixed price for life’ to ‘fix discount for life’ in the small print 2023.
They have now been forced to give people the possibilty to cancel their deal on short notice. And what’s better: The excuse that everybody will run on 5G (except people like me in the sticks, LOL) is now down to the choice of the customer=those who don’t want/need 5G will stay on the current price if they declare so before August 25.
Leaves us with the insight nothing lasts for ever which - let’s face it - in 80% of the situations in life is a good thing
An accountant would agree with you. It is impossible to calculate the potential future liability for such agreements therefore also impossible to prepare annual financial statements. Ever wonder why airline tickets are valid for a maximum of one year? Accountants!
Funny enough 30 chf/m is kind of psychological barrier I’m willing to pay for the convenience of having worldwide everything without the hassle even though I never used it, but 32 is too much, so I’m cancelling after my vacations
