Winter cycling gear

Morning all.

As the evenings are beginning to pull in and the wind picks up, I've come to the conclusion that I can't keep going out cycling in shorts and a t-shirt.

So I'm looking for some appropriate waterproof cycling gear for autumn/winter as I do still want to keep up exercise outside for as long as possible. Does anybody have any suggestions for good cycling wear for ladies?Specifically a waterproof, light jacket and trousers.

I tried the Migro Sport in Olten, and the selection was pretty poor tbh. I should add I'll be in Bern on Saturday, so any suggestions for Bern would be much appreciated!

Athleticum normally carry a good selection, although it may becoming limited as the main season is coming to an end.

Check the sub headings on lhs under Bikes and Velo/Bikebekleidung and Schuhe

Otherwise an independent bike shop - but you'll pay.

I get all mine from wiggle.co.uk they shop from Germany to Switzerland and if you do several small orders under 70chf roughly each time you don't get charged import tax.

MTB or road bike?

I picked up some insulated waterproof MTB boots from Bikester.ch and some insulated gloves from Athleticum.

What does that mean?

If you order from the UK website, do they deliver from Germany to Switzerland, or does it mean something else.

My orders from Wiggle.co.uk are shipped direct from the UK free of charge. Have to say they are bloody good, too. I stretched their customer service to the limit a few months ago and they did their utmost to sort the problem out.

Sorry for the shameless plug but there are enough complaints on the forum - I just thought I'd post about a positive experience.

I've used Wiggle before too - and the item was shipped directly from the U.K.

Hence the query on the posters statement.

Thanks to everyone for their helpful suggestions.

Just bought myself a gore bike waterproof jacket from Wiggle - thankfully just before the sale ended!

I do love a good bargain...

Another one for wiggle but also keep an eye out at Aldi and Lidl for when they have their cycling week offers - they have some fantastic cycling gear at very reasonable prices.

The Swiss don’t cycle in winter - too much snow!

I mean more for now, coming into autumn, until the great snow of 2013 means we have to batten down the hatches.

I know Zurich isn't all of Switzerland but I think I can count on one hand the number of days there was snow on the ground which might have slightly impeded cycling last winter. Same for most winters, as far as I can remember.

Any snow that falls on roads is swiftly ploughed away before most peoples coffee has finished pouring from the machine...

I like cycling in the snow. It's the black ice that I fear (and that's around for quite a lot of the winter though perhaps not in the centre of Zurich where it's a few degrees warmer).

Not forgetting the fair tonnage of salt they shake down.

It sounds like you’re getting ready for chilly rides! For waterproof cycling gear, look for lightweight, breathable jackets and trousers. Don’t forget about cycling gloves to keep your hands warm and dry. While you’re in Bern, check out local cycling shops and outdoor retailers for great selections. Good luck, and enjoy your rides!
