Winter travelling with dogs

Hi,

I'm wondering if you know some chalets/resorts/hotels etc, where you can travel with your pet. I would like to take my dog with me, because he loves the snow ->

I must travel by train, since I dont have a driver's permit.

Thanks and happy holidays!

Christian

Sorry don`t know about where you can stay with your dog (by the way your dog is cute ), but i do know you have to pay for your dog on the train

Most websites for accomodations will give an indication (little dog insignia) of whether pets or accepted or not. Often you have to pay a supplement for them.

Hi Sutter,

Thanks a lot! I guess thats another reason for obedience training for my dog...he obeys...whenever he wants to though

Cheers!

Christian

Hi JLP,

Thanks for the info, I will ask around in the hotels to see if my dog is welcome and the fares.

Cheers!

Christian

Christian, your dog rides on public transport for the same price as your Halbtax price. Happy trails!

Train and hotel deals from SBB:

When looking at the different hotels click on " more.. " to see details including information about pets.

If you go to www.holiday-home.com one of the criteria on the details list for each property is whether they accept animals. Here is one (random - it doesn't belong to me or anyone I know!!) example of a place that does (unfortunately many don't):

If you do take animals with you can expect to pay an extra cleaning charge.

This place at Tannenboden takes dogs http://www.flumserberg.ch/winter/en/...l+overview.htm

You can also take a dog on the gondola from Unterterzen to Tannenboden, there were half a dozen or so up there on New Years eve.

Hi Everybody,

Thank you very much for your suggestions and help!

Cheers!

hi Chris:

Here's a list of hotels that are dog-friendly. Sorry, I think website is in German only, but at least it'll give you a good idea

Hi möpp,

thats a very good website, I will browse around, and will discuss it with my dog

Thanks!

Christian

I normally check Priceline Europe and Hotel Reservation Services and found that there were a lot of places that allowed our dog.

Whenever I book online, I put in a reservation comment that I was bringing my labrador retriever along and to contact me by such and such date if that was a problem. That way it is very clear that a dog is coming and that he was a larger dog.

We have been in St. Moritz/Davos/Zermatt/Lausanne and have yet to find a place that has not allowed our dog. And there have been no extra fees charged. Of course, we called first to check, and the hotels all had an indication on their websites that they are pet friendly.

No problems on the SBB trains either. And if you buy 1st class for yourself, you still only pay half price for a 2nd class ticket for your dog. Nice discount!

We have had good luck in France/Germany/Italy as well, though I have heard that TrenItalia is no longer allowing dogs in 2009. I need to verify this, as I have not tried to travel to Italy recently.

Good luck!

There's a hotel in Zermatt that is specifically dog-friendly to the extent that they provide bowls and beds and will dog-sit for you if necessary. Can't remember it's name, but I'm sure Google will be your friend
