Hi all,
My ABN AMRO bank in the Netherlands charges 2.5% transaction fee (with an honest exchange rate) for any payment by debit card in CH. It is OK but I do need cash sometimes
And some ATM in touristic areas charges 20% on CHF withdrawal from my ABN AMRO bank. !!!
I have a Wise account but it is only for bank2bank conversion, and I don't have Revolut.
Probably there is a cheaper way to withdraw CHF from an Euro bank ? Thanks (some hundreds euro is not big, but having knowledge is always good right ?)
Open an account with Wise.
https://wise.com
Or Revolut / or .. go to any country near you --> withdraw a higher amount of euro, so that you would have a bigger reserve for the next months (should be free in theory, no ??) go to an exchange and get CHF
No. Use the cash allowance from Wise and/or get a Revolut or similar card.
20% ATM fee seems unbelievable.
Stay away from these Euronet atm‘s and their spin-offs as they are borderline fraudulent and will take their pound of flesh with every transaction.
20 to 30 percent for withdrawal via a foreign Card seems believable.
Get a Revolut account and a card or apply for the Wise card. It's outrageous to pay 2.5% transaction fees and for sure ABN is charging you a nice spread on the conversion as well.
Thanks everyone,
Since Revolut is mentioned more times than Wise, I guess Revolut has a lower (hidden) fee or is easier to use ?
Amazing, I did not know Wise has such an excellently working credit card for conversion.
My last parking sessions since starting using Wise, via Easy Park, were with only 0.55% transaction fee .
The restaurant payment yesterday, via Google Pay using Wise and communicating with the restaurant's reader via NFC, did not succeed yet. Although another similar situation (paying to Lidl reader via Google Pay + Wise credit card + NFC) succeeded. I would need to understand why, probably the restaurant's reader's fault ?
Revolut is probably a bit better known, but I have used both and Wise is better.
You can convert a lump sum of Euros to Swiss francs in the app, then there is no charge when spending them by card, rather than getting charged per transaction.
Wise should work fine with Apple and Google pay. You should order a physical card for future trips though.
