Work permit in Swiss for non EU citizen

Hi, I am a masters graduate (in Mechatronics) from German Hochschule, and have a bachelors degree (in Mechanical) from India. Currently searching for a job.

Is it possible to get a job in Switzerland for a fresher like me? At the moment i am having 18 months work search visa from Germany.

If yes, Whats the salary range i can mention during my Swiss job application?

And how different is the visa process in Switzerland compared to Germany?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

I would say it is possible. Where are you planning to live if you take up work in Switzerland?

Mostly north and eastern Switzerland. Close to Zürich and Chur. In addition it depends on the job which fits my profile.

Your prospective employer would have to take into account domestic priority when applying to employ you with the respective cantonal labor authority.

Since you graduated from a university in Germany (and not Switzerland) you would not be considered for the special provision allowing non-EU graduates of a Swiss university to stay and look for work 6 months after graduating and not take into account national priority (if the job is of scientific and economic importance) during that period.

Your best bet would be to acquire several years of professional experience in Germany before coming to Switzerland (you would likely obtain German citizenship during that time anyway, making things easier)

Thanks for your reply.

Just for my knowledge, could you tell me the salary range for a fresh master graduate in Switzerland? For example in near by area of Zürich / Chur.

Salary alone is not that relevant. You also have to look at living costs particularly housing and health insurance (which combined could be 40-50% of your salary)

That's the reason I am asking it. I must have some idea to plan this. Also, the employer asks our range during the application process, for which i have to give a figure.

This is the same for most people though, i.e. almost everyone has these costs. Living costs also is rather a broad term, it depends what you include exactly as living costs.

as some have already told you here, you have little or close to zero chances of landing a job here. Being a NON EU, and a fresher with no experience, its very difficult to convince any employer to try to apply for a work permit for you.

you seem to be more interested about the salary range without bothering much about your non eu status and lack of experience. check any job search websites for switzerland for the type of jobs you are looking for, some times there is a salary quoted there, which could be a starting point for you.

if your only motivation to come to Switzerland is about higher salaries, please remember the high costs of living here and in the end, it is only on paper that you appear to be earning more.

OK Now i see that you are also trying to find out work permit process in Switzerland. it is very strict (unlike Germany) and any company wanting to hire a non EU person should prove to the immigration authorities that they were not able to find a suitable candidate in Switzerland/EU. Even if an employer makes that effort, it is not guaranteed that the work permit will be approved and there are also quotas for non eu work permits.

i can imaging that your entry to Germany would have been very easy as the rules are very relaxing for Non EUs but Switzerland is totally different in this matter.

Thanks for your reply.

i must say that i am not only concentrated on the salary range, as i intend to seek clarity in three main topics, in which salary is also one of it. Because i tried applying few companies, where there is a mandatory field to mention our salary expectation. at the same time i am also seeking info regarding the work permit process and chances of getting into any Swiss companies as a fresher.

Be aware that e.g. in Canton Zurich the authorities have an informal practice since about 2014 that a non-EU person must have at least 3 years of full-time industry experience to get a work permit as a highly qualified specialist.

It's virtually impossible to get a work permit in ZH as a non-EU new grad, even for a company like Google (who offer a lot of money and reject a lot of people so they don't have a problem 'proving' there were no Swiss/EU candidates for the job).

It's marginally easier if you are looking for a job after finishing a Swiss university as noted above but it's still quite hard.

Thanks a lot for your prompt reply, I will rethink about my decision.
