Working as a Doctor in Switzerland after completing Medical School / Residency abroad

Hello,

I am a Swiss citizen but am completing medical school in Ireland. After completion, I would like to do my medical residency training in Canada. I was wondering if anyone had any idea how it would work with the recognition of my diploma and specialized training program in the future?

I know that for a direct recognition of my diploma in Switzerland I need a certificate of experience from Ireland (which one receives after one year of "internship" - working as a junior doctor). This internship is not needed to do residency training in Canada /US and as my partner is Canadian, I would like to skip the internship. Would anyone know whether, after completing a training program in Canada/ US I could get both my degree and my training program recognized through the indirect route should I move back here in the future (even though my degree is technically from a EU state) ?

Thanks!

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

I don't know the answer to your question, but in case you haven't already done so, you might find it worthwhile to work through the detailed threads of the user drremobond, see here: https://www.englishforum.ch/search.p...rchid=21404992 who has set out, in excellent detail with links, the rules for doctors entering Switzerland with EU and non-EU qualifications.

You can also contact MEBEKO direct since they handle the recognition procedure.
