So, I have done some research on this matter, however I would still like some help.
My partner currently works with waterproofing concrete and in reservoirs in England. He has a fire marshal certificate and vessel entry for medium risk confined spaces. Will this be enough to get a job working in his preferred sector in Switzerland? Research has lead me around in circles and I am not sure. (He is also happy to work in construction, he has a CSCS card and about 3 years experience.)
He will be getting his certificates translated in to German, along with his C.V. and two Reference letters. However his German is not perfect but he does learn quickly. (He is currently learning via Rosetta stone but unfortunately there is not a Rosetta stone - working in reservoirs version!)
Does any one have any tips for him? Any courses he will need to partake in Switzerland? He is also happy to work voluntarily for a week or so to learn the swiss words which will be mostly used. (Names of tools used, etc.) Will this help him with getting work in this sector?
All information is appreciated.
Thank you for reading, and hopefully helping!
I've been working in construction here for a few years now. Back in OZ I was a concretor for 7 years but my level of expertise are not required here so I'm now doing a brickies apprenticeship and having to start all over again.
If you guys are looking at moving to the German part then he will definitely need basic German up to B1. The technical terms he'll learn very quick, that's no problem. But you need to understand basic instructions in German at least. (he'll pick up the Swiss German with time)
If he wants to go on with waterproofing I would suggest you look up Dichtungen companies but I would recommend 'Dach Spenglerei'. Very easy work from what I can tell and plenty of it. Otherwise, what I did was just take on temp work for a year or so and get to know all the ins and outs, as well as all the terms and then try and hook up a full time job.
Ideally if he knew Italian he would have no problem as that is the main language for all areas of construction.
Hope I've been of help. If you need any further info just ask.
Thank you! You've been a lot of help
