Hi we are a married couple with two dependents. I have a swiss contract of employment full time on a c permit obtained prior to 2021. My husband ( also permit C prior 2021) was laid off and has been unable to find work in Switzerland. He has recently accepted a job in London, due to start Aug 2022. We are looking for general advice to avoid double taxation and residency problems. My husband also gets private health in the UK but I think we need to retain his swiss health assurance as well. I would appreciate any advice especially if you have been in a similar situation. Many Thanks
Well, the place to start would be to figure out what your legal residency(ies) will be. And, if your husband has to be physically present in the UK for his job, whether he can actually keep his swiss residence and C permit…

My husband has to be partially physically present in the UK but will be doing a lot of European travel and hopes to come home as much as possible. He will rent a studio as a base in London. Thanks for your help :-)
Maybe start researching the tax side here.
There are a few things here:
- taxability in the UK due to his UK employment contract
- UK tax residency due to the studio/flat and possible UK-ties (latter is assumed)
- the ability to mitigate some tax due to non-UK residency (very unlikely due to 1 and 2 above)
- CH residency and
- CH taxation
I would recommend getting some specialist advice as you have two jurisdictions and two issues - taxation and residency. It'll probably save you money and heartache later.
