Working remotely for US as non-EU B permit holder

Is it even possible? I have a B permit provided by my current employer, which is not tied to them.

I’m trying to understand if I will be able to switch jobs to work for US company not represented in Switzerland.

For EU citizens, there are payroll companies and ANOBAG.

Do this options also exist for non-EU citizens? I reached out to payroll plus and they told me they won’t be able to extend my B permit.

Anyone had a similar situation? Would be great to know about your experience.

Depends. You might have to set up a company here and you’d have to do all the usual health insurance, unemployment, etc, stuff that a Swiss employer has to do at their end.

I’d also check with your bank whether they’d be happy with you working for a US company. Many banks here dropped customers that had any links to the US when the FATCA law was coming into force and I don’t think that’s changed since.

As a citizen of a third country the normal justification for your permit is that you are filling a shortage in the local labour market. So what would your justification be for a permit if you are not working in the local workforce?

Just got a call from Helvetic Payroll, and it seems they can extend the permit in this case. But yeah, I will need to pay all the regular social contributions etc.

Thanks for the tip!

My understanding is that it was the justification for issuing the permit, but not for extending it. Otherwise I would need to compete for the visa quotas every year. But yeah, it sounds iffy, so this is why I want to get some advice on the matter.
