Hi EFers
Upon thawing my fish enough to get it out of its packaging (by running lukewarm water over the plastic), I was a little overenthusiastic and some liquid sprayed all over the counter. Because everything smells like fish and there is obviously no way to differentiate between water and fish juice in that spray, I tossed everything on the counter in the sink straight away. A box of berries went straight into the bin as it was uncovered and could've been spattered with fish juice.
Now, I also had this bio cucumber on the counter (wrapped in plastic wrap) and I'm wondering if I should chuck it as well. Thing is, I need a cucumber tomorrow and it is wrapped, so I'm wondering if I'm being slightly too careful or if it would be ok to eat the (immediately rinsed in its foil and refrigerated) cucumber tomorrow. After all, it needs to be peeled to eat and it has plastic on it. But fish poisoning isn't funny at all.
So - would you toss it?
Thanks
Are you getting fish confused with shellfish?
Oh, you are.
Everything will be fine - just rinse it under the cold tap.
(you could have rinsed the berries too).
Thanks. Would you recommend eating the cucumber sooner than tomorrow (in about 18 hours) or is that OK?
In in a plastic wrap. You could probably eat it in a week.
You peel cucumber?? I never do!
Maybe you should stop eating fish ?
It's no wonder there is so much food wasted every day if people go around chucking stuff away because a bit of fish juice got on it.
Rinse it off, put it in the fridge and it will be fine for however long it would have been good in the first place.
Why you would think it necessary to throw away a wrapped cucumber is beyond me.
If you were worried you could also have cooked the berries - chuck in some sugar, cook until softened and serve with ice cream.
Threads like this make me wonder how some people manage to make it through the day on their own...
