Forgot to buy a "night" ticket for the tram ride home in zurich a couple days ago. The train police gave me some type of ticket for 80 chf..any idea where I would have to go to pay this off??
Sorry to hear that you can pay it at any SBB counter as Oldhand suggested. At least you are not a fare dodger, that would be another story on it's own and your rep would be adjusted accordingly by the EF
I was just kind of nervous because I am waiting on a residency permit to be approved from my local gemiendhaus and definitely dont need this ticket to affect it at all
I understand your concern but IMHO the fine would not have any effect on your permit approval. If you do not pay it in certain period of time they will add another CHF40 and if you do not pay it it will be another CHF40 on top of that and so on and so forth... until the time you decide to leave Switzerland the accumulated outstanding amount will have to be paid or alternatively debt collectors will send you rather intimidating letter. There should be a thread somewhere on the EF "guide to bills and what happens if they are not paid"!
To use the night services (those whose number starts with N or SN) you need two tickets
- a regular ticket (this can be your travel pass, day ticket, GA etc)
- a night supplement, valid for any number of journeys during the same night.
The latter can be bought at any ZVV ticket machine. There isn't a single button but there is a simple code you can type. I can't remember it but it's explained in the notice on the machine.
I had never heard of a night supplement before in any other cities I've lived in or visited, but I wonder if the extra fees for the night busses/night trains goes toward better service? I see on the ZVV website the S-bahn is accompanied at night, so I assume the extra cash pays that person. Can anyone confirm the extra security or even a feeling of security on the night-time network?
richardm- some of the later trains, called "Pajama trains" do have a surcharge and they pretty much always check. First time i took one and didnt realise i was actually able to buy the supplement onboard from the conductor (with a conductor surcharge of course). Cost me about 5CHF all up + the standard ticket i had just bought. So it seems to be a bit kinder than Zurich.
80chf sounds a bit harsh for ignorance, assuming you had a normal ticket of course.
