I know Mark well. But he is 15 years younger than me, so I’m not exactly new blood.
That’s a pity. I was invited to their opening show.
Their problem, apart from a silly name “World Radio”, was they have always been Geneva/Romand centred and focused. The greater Zurich area would barely support an English-language station, but when the referred to “the lake” and it was the Genfersee not the Zurisee the lost Zurcher cred…
Genfersee? A pox on all your houses. It is the Lac Léman! or perhaps Lemanersee. I think Geneva lake is somewhere in Wisconsin.
And that was WRS’s problem in a nurtshell!
And that is Switzerland’s problem in a nutshell.
Is this the highly religious one, I got fed up of being preached to very quickly.
No, that was Radio74*, which broadcast from neighbouring France. They had the BBC in the 80s until WRG started up and they took it on.
I don’t know if they still exist.
74 being the department number of the Haute Savoire*
