My uncle Gerardo celebrates his 100’th birthday today. His wife is only 91 and the youngest of his brothers in the photo is only 82.
Feliz cumple tio Gerardo!

Wow! He looks much younger than 100!
Sheesh, 100, give him my regards!
He looks 80 and fabulous!
I wish I look like your uncle when I’m 70! Congrats!
Congrats! And look, on a carb rich diet ![]()
And to think! He’s outlived 2 World Wars and a revolution.
Actually the 2nd world war was overshadowed by the civil war in Spain.
Now to why his father moved over: in Extremadura goats were forbidden and his father had a lot of them. So the whole family moved over the mountain to the Salamanca province where goats were still allowed. Don’t ask me why they did forbid goats.
Isn’t that the place with the tradition of chucking a live goat from a church spire and people tried to catch it before it went SPLAT?
Best wishes to the old soul
Now that’s a story with a twist! Imagine having to move an entire family simply because the goats were no longer welcome. I’d be curious to know what on earth prompted the goat ban in the first place. ![]()
Good grief
From “goats are forbidden” to “throw them off the church” — that’s one hell of a leap in goat management!
Goats were forbidden during Franco’s reforestation program so they would not eat up the little threes in the Hurdes mountains. This was around 1940.
I have seen the goat throwing in a movie only, don’t know any place that does that. There was a village in Zamora that did that with a safety net until it was forbidden in 2014.
