Young children and eating out

A friend is coming to visit in a few weeks time and I am trying to find somewhere child friendly to go and eat.(her daughter is 3 yrs old).

Where I lived in the Uk there was a Childrens cafe type place which sold i guess sandwiches and snacks.

Table clothes were paper and could be drawn on

Walls where white boards so could be scribbled on and the floor was covered in paper so basically the kids could go and paint and scribble on whatever they wanted.

Is there anything like this in Zurich ??

I don't know of anything like that but here is a thread for child friendly restaurants. En guete

weather means a great deal in this: lots of places with playgrounds outside. For inside it is a little harder.

A place where you can scribble on everything does not exist here as far as I know, but frankly I would not take my kids there. They'll get a bad example!

This http://www.albisguetli.ch/ is nice. Large terrace with playground outside and the kids get to help making their own pizza... (althought not sure if that is suitable for a 3 year old.

Never been there but I noticed that the Mc Donalds on Bahnhof Enge has a pretty big indoor playground...

I think Spaghetti Factory seems quite suitable. Its not designed for children per se, but it's cheap and kids normally like to dig in to spaghetti and meatballs or something similar don't they?

A visit to this restaurant could be very entertaining with a small person...

For goodness sake DB, it's bad enough trying to keep tabs on them when you can see them! Still, if ones children wrecked the place, one could say one had NO IDEA what was going on... Must try it sometime with my granddaughters...

Not everything in/near Zurich

...and what you're probably after in Zurich:

I guess I am mainly looking for a wet weather plan, if it is dry we will just go the Zoo or do something outside. But if the weather is like it is now I need a plan B...I am pretty sure I would be in trouble if I let them come all the way to Zurich and take them to Mcdonalds.

PS I probably wouldnt take my kids somewhere where they can scribble on everything - but its not my kids im sure she wont pick up too many bad habbits from one visit - but if you see me posting a how can i remove felt tip from my sofa thread you know I was wrong !

Strangely enough I am going here soon with my Other Half... his idea ... should I take a hint that I need to spend more time fixing my face and hair before i go out

Hiltl is extremely kid-friendly. I went on a Sunday once for brunch and almost died of stress.

Their glass panels upstairs was basically a kid-vandalism zone. Kids were given paint that was easily washed off, whilst the parents sat around and had lunch.

Do 3 yrs olds actually manage to eat spaghetti ?? I still can't quite manage it !

Ok this sounds pretty similar to what I was thinking, Sunday brunch is a good idea too.

Is a 3 year old too young for this though.. Im pretty clueless when it comes to kids, and have no idea if the glass wall and child locked on the other side of it could potentially cause tears...

Have you been to the upstairs portion of the Hiltl restaurant? Its just all those glass panes by the stairs that the children get to paint on. I saw kids of various ages. I am sure a three year old will be intrigued by the bright colours and be encouraged to join in by the other loud kids.

Word of advice: do not go there with a hangover.

Alternatively, brunch (buffet style) at the Zurich Marriott is extremely kid friendly too. 69 chuffs per head and free flow prosecco. hur hur hur.

I had a Ghost in my household ,he did all the work of my four kids

Ah ok I've just been re-watching Silence of the Lambs, and Lectur locked in his glass walled prison cell and my imagination ran away with me.

Glass panels, not at all like a glass prison erm play room.

You do know staying in is the new going out right?! I've even got some crayons if you want to borrow them

Half the fun!

How about I send the artist to your place ? My white walls would be far too tempting.

(which is why this is a great Sunday activity - art lesson then straight to the airport)

Why not go to the restaurant here ?

I'm not really too sure where this Thread belongs - I suppose watching children eat can be entertainment and theoretically they are dining.

Hope no-one is too cross with me for moving it.
