The only bread i actually like here is sliced bread. The big one with the american flag from Coop. Other types are also nice but they get hard after a day no matter what i do so i stopped getting them. No point to get it and throw away
The bread here is not as good as in germany but it comes close. My favorites at the moment are the potatobread with walnuts and the muesli bread from migros. Manor has great breads too, but I'm not coming there very often. I don't like the Coop bread - it's very dry and doesn't taste much.
The biggest surprise for me was that they don't offer freshly baked bread that's already sliced.
Fabulous bread here, I agree with you Leni. Dark or with seeds- so many to chose from! When I first went to UK the choice was, thin, medium or thick blotting paper - yuk (OK toasted). Here we have so many fantastic bakers all working so hard to out-do each other.
I try and only eat pumpernickel - refined carbs don't make me feel great but if I feel like a treat I will go for one of those wholemeal pan rusticos or especially something baked with olives which I'll break off while still warm and dip in olive oil and zatar.
Fantastic bread, agree. Week-end favourites Zopf which makes wonderful french toast on Mon or Tue (if any left).
I like olives bread, potato bread with nuts and fit bread from migros.
I've just discovered breads/buns/pastries at Backbar at Seefeldstr. I think it is best bakery ever. Seefeldbrot is really good: heavy rye with seeds; and sour dough is delicious, too.
I quite like the Weinlander bread from Coop for making crusty sandwiches in the evening.
Other times I tend to vary the types of bread I purchase depending on what I'm doing with it. I do like Zopf at the weekend, first for toasting with a fried egg . . . and later for making French toast.
Sometimes I make my own bread. It's easier than most people think and it's easy to get fresh yeast here.
I make my own bread every Sunday - two large loaves using 90rp Migros flour and the yeast cube you get in the milk fridge section. Our Sunday brunch is usually eggy in the basket.
