ZKB: no more cash after 23:30

Sadly, I had to find out that even the ATM in Wiedikon, next to the police-station, is closed at night.

Basically, the bank is afraid of the collateral damages from criminal elements blowing up the building while trying to blow up the ATM.

Another case of “a few ruining it for everybody else”.

So do they empty the ATMs at 23.30 and then there is no cash to steal, sounds risky, like making an appointment with bank robbers.

Most of the ATMs around here which are located in residential buildings have been closed due to the not insignificant number of them being blown up by thieves recently.
There has being a spate of robberies at ATMs close to the French border.

The ones facing outside have a metal curtain that goes down.

The ones inside the bank - well, the doors just don’t open.

Millenial here, what’s an ATM?

More seriously, Wiedikon is within Zurich agglomeration, why?

Also, is this just a normal thing in Switzerland? After all, it’s hard to get cigarettes after midnight Cigarettes Purchase ZH Night Walk

Bancomat

Some ladies and drug dealers prefer cash.

Cashpoint quite often in British English.

Sorry for the confusion, just joking about not using cash. I think I’ve been to a bancomat twice this year, and once was not in Switzerland. That’s why I joked with the cigarettes after midnight thread. I understand the craving for a cigarette on a party night. But…cash?

But, needs are quite subjective. What I don’t understand is the need to close the ATM in Zurich agglomeration. There are robbers exploding bancomats in Baselland and Jura, but Wiedikon? What’s the risk?

Few smart things happen with cash withdrawn after 23:30 anyway…

If I pay in Germany via Credit Card, there’s an extra charge.

Cash avoids that (for now).

I very rarely need to withdraw money - thus this change had escaped my attention. I usually do it while I’m at the office - but I was sick and then spent a week working from home and forgot about it.

Haha , ty for bringing up my topic :))
On topic : are you limited to withdrawing only from ZKB ? I am with UBS and initially they said I could withdraw from their ATM but I always use a Post Finance one which is closer and I don’t see any extra charges.
But overall, yeah, life after 00.00 kinda shuts down here , which is pretty sad … probably excepting Zuri West and Langstrasse

Last time I checked, I couldn’t even withdraw from other Cantonal Banks without incurring extra charges.

But my guess is that the risk assessment is the same for all banks.

Not if you use Revolut or Wise.

Am not sure, but believe that if money is not removed more than once, it can shut down the machine.

You mean you are stuck to YOUR Cantonal Bank? Not much point in an EC-card (or what ever they call it now - no improvement=change of name and they think they fool us with that) is there.
I’m with Raiffeisen. I can use any strangers Bancomat (an other lovely old name ) for free 12 times a year. As I don’t do it more often than that I have no idea about the charges.

I have no idea what that means.

Yes, both Morgins and Val d’Illiez have had bancomats blown up in recent years.
