Working couple, EU/B permit, no kids. For simplicity let's say each making 140k so 280k combined per annum.
Is getting married in Zug going to make their taxes better or worse? Different calculators yield different results and I am confused.
I know some cantons have tried to make the penalty go away and Zug is among them but I can't find some stats/information directly on this in English.
Any help from the wise people here?
Use the below calculator and work out the difference.
https://www.ch.ch/de/steuerrechner/
According to a quick calculation I did:
Single, no kids, no religion with CHF140k Salary and no deductions other than the defaults inserted by the calculator:
(Kanton Zug, Gemeinde Zug)
Total deductions (Federal): CHF 15'386.-
Total deductions (Kanton): CHF 23'186.-
Federal Tax: CHF 4'959.-
Kanton Tax: CHF 7'249.-
Gemeinde Tax: CHF 5'304.-
Total: CHF17'512.-
X 2 = CHF 35'024.-
Compared to couple, no kids, no religion, CHF280k combined income and no deductions other than the defaults inserted by the calculator:
(Kanton Zug, Gemeinde Zug)
Total deductions (Federal): CHF 27'804.-
Total deductions (Kanton): CHF 40'704.-
Federal Tax: CHF 19'335.-
Kanton Tax: CHF 14'926.-
Gemeinde Tax: CHF10'921.-
Total: CHF 45'182.-
Difference: - CHF 10'158.- (that is the penalty!)
It shows a positive return, so there is no marriage penalty.
Is that true? Then did the legislation change?
I was hoping for some personal experiences here.
Where exactly do you see the positive returns???
From the calculation I posted above, Kanton + Gemeinde Tax are slightly higher... and Federal Tax is significantly higher!
