I try to go once sometimes twice a week. I find some of the moves a bit strange though, so I guess that's why I read that Wii has a censored version for kids. I go with a Spanish friend who can move much better than me
It isn't that aerobic for me but sometimes we use weights or hold ribbons up high - that is good for toning. Weight loss could be done with 2-3x a week. One time wouldn't be enough. It is certainly great fun. Give it a try!
My OH was going at least twice a week and loved it. She had to stop about 4 months into her pregnancy as it got too hard for her to keep up but until then it was really noticable that she was toning up all over.
I think like any kind of exercise, it only works if you keep going regularly and combine it with other ways of keeping fit! I've tried lots of different fitness classes and zumba is definitely one of the most fun (although depending on the instructor it can be a bit crazy) although probably not the most high intensity - something like circuits or high energy aerobics is maybe better for toning up and losing weight. I'd still recommend it though, especially if you go with friends - just leave your embarrassment at the door!
I've been going twice a week at my gym in basel and I LOVE IT!! I also go to spin class and I sweat more at zumba - because you are working your whole body, and supporting your full weight - unlike spin where you are sitting. Also, its designed to use your arms as well and when your arms are above your heart it increases your heart rate. The time absolutely flies by especially if the class is fun. Our instructor gets everybody in a party mood so everybody shouts along and doesn't care too much if you don't get the steps right - just as long as you keep moving. Try it - especially for 5 euro!!
I go twice a week and love it and am usually a couch potato! Have lost about 4 kilos in 2 months just by doing this and not changing my diet! 5 Euro a class is a great deal!!!
Otherwise agree, quite good work-out, I usually take it to warm up for Bodycombat. Can be a lot of fun, depending on the instructor. But as usual, exercise is 20% of weight loss, eating, or to be more precise, not eating, is 80%.
By the way, there is a Zumba Party (2 hour class) in Basel this Sunday:
I've tried a few session of Zumba toning at my club but I 'm such a bad dancer, it did n0t work for me. I need to spend more energy.
But I guess as a combination with other classes ( I am addicted to Body pump) it can be a fun and different way to work out. I can 't wait to try body combat and body attack soon.
