Zürich airport gates / lounges

We’ve got a fairly long connection at ZRH connecting to WK Edelweiss to Calgary. Can anyone tell us the gates that they typically use? Are they from the E longhaul terminal?

We are hoping to book places in a lounge near to the gate. Any recommendations?

Book places? What do you mean? Restaurants? Never heard of that being possible in an airport.

You are not clear where you are flying into ZRH from/to (both with WK?), gates normally depend more on origin and destination than airline (due to schengen).

Edit: When we flew WK to Mexico, we went from pier B/D

Perhaps I should have said book access to a lounge. But I did say Edelweiss to Calgary.

Most long haul flights are from E. Afaik you can buy vouchers to access the lounge?

No idea how that works though and if a lounge in E does that. There are the Aspire lounges that have that access.

You mentioned a connection, which implied 2 flights connecting in Zürich - this is why I was confused.

Normally an airline uses a particular lounge, I'd think WK would probably use Swiss lounges. But you could ask them?

Here. Aspire lounge apparently.

Sorry I mis-understood that page. That is in Calgary - wasn’t very clear. In Zürich it’s the Swiss lounges (as I originally thought).

Swiss is better than Aspire imo. Actually E gates Swiss one is the best out of Swiss lounges at Zurich airport. Have been to Aspire only at gates A though...

There are hotel rooms for day use at zurich airport terminal D

Thanks everyone for their input. But without knowing which gates Edelweiss uses for their Calgary flights it’s all moot. I just say a Denver flight departing from a D gate.

I still don't follow this, are you flying into ZRH with another airline? Or are you just getting there early? If the latter, bear in mind that check-in probably won't open more than 3 hours before departure, in which case you'll be stuck landslide with your bags unable to get to the lounge.

We are flying Swiss from Geneva to Zürich. Our bags will be through checked from Geneva to Calgary. We don’t even have to clear Security in Zürich as they trust the people in Geneva has done a good job.

Swiss puts their code on the WK fight so our tickets show LX/LX even though WK is operating the ZRH-YYC flight.

There is no history for the flight since 2019 - possibly due covid. But it always used to go from D gates https://www.flightera.net/en/flight/WK14

Presuming you have 2 boarding passes, 1 GVA to ZRH, 2nd from ZRH to Calgary you could go out from the terminal and explore the options Zurich airport has to make time pass in The Circle or shopping center right across from terminal building. You’d have to go through security again with your carry-on stuff, perhaps a minor inconvenience to get outside of airport and in real air for a while.

Swiss lounge is for business class/upper tier frequent flyer members only. If you are flying economy, you can’t buy access, and you anyway can’t book in advance.

You can buy access to the aspire lounges and prime class lounge. In ZRH as far as I know, you can just walk in and buy access. I note in the past few weeks around some airports in Europe, in particular London and Birmingham, the airports were so full that you have to reserve your lounge entries in advance, but this has not been the case so far in ZRH...

The lounges in E gates are far better. The prime lounge is the better one. However I have not been in those lounges except the Swiss ones since before COVID, and I know that aspire lounge in the main terminal has been renovated (though that space is still tight)

Not true: https://www.swiss.com/ch/en/book-and.../lounge-access

But I agree with Axman that E ones are much better. Actually I wouldn't pay for D swiss, not worth it imo unless you plan on staying 5+ hours. It does not even has its own washrooms.

A lounge is often packed. They have now again separated the FF and Sen lounge but the food is the same

Swiss Lounge D never reopened after covid. Every time I ask (as lounge A is rammed) I get told they have no plans to start again.

Kind regards

Ian

Lots of credit cards include priority pass reduced access prices, even free passes. Lounges in ZRH airport

Maybe we should look at it this way:

If you have a few hours to burn, I think all the E lounges are worth paying for, but none of the A/D lounges are worth paying for.

I would rather hangout in one of the restaurants in the main terminal sections, or go to the new Circle section, rather than pay for the lounge entry in A/D.
